Here, we report the simultaneous isolation of Pseudomonas straminea from blood cultures and from a skin ulcer in an elderly woman who suffered from atopic dermatitis and psoriasis and developed acute cellulitis of both arms requiring hospital treatment. To the best of our knowledge, P. straminea has not been previously reported to cause invasive infections in humans. A topical vitamin D3 ointment (tacalcitol) was prescribed for patients with long-lasting pruriginous lesions (four with prurigo nodularis and seven with subacute prurigo, four of whom had atopic dermatitis). A retrospective study on the skin diseases of Chinese Shar Peis was conducted over a 9-year period. Skin disease was found in 58 (49.2%) of the 118 dogs studied. Folliculitis was the most common clinical finding (43 of 58 dogs). In 6 dogs, there was no apparent reason for the folliculitis; however, it was secondary to allergic dermatitis, demodicosis, IgA deficiency, or hypothyroidism in the other dogs. Approximately 20% of the dogs had more than one of these disorders. Serum IgA concentration was measured in 7 dogs and was low in all 7.

A prospective study of the development of hand eczema was initiated in 86 junior hairdressers and 217 junior nurses. Data obtained at the start of their apprenticeships are presented. None of the junior apprentices presented with hand eczema, but a history of hand eczema was reported by 22/303 (7%) of the students. Atranorin, one of the most common lichen substances, gave positive patch test reactions in eight subjects (1%) in a routine series. These subjects also reacted to fumarprotocetraric acid and some of them to evernic acid. Stictic acid and usnic acid gave negative reactions.
