Combination of gut microbiota, proinflammatory cytokine, and 18F-FDG PET as potential indicators for predicting breast cancer recurrence.

Breast cancer occurs at a younger age compared to western countries in South Korea. Despite advancements in treatment methods such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy, the increasing number of patients underscores the importance of improving disease-free survival (DFS). In this study, we evaluated the associations between gut microbiota composition, inflammatory cytokine levels, and breast cancer recurrence in preoperative patients. Additionally, we developed a composite prognostic index by integrating these factors with PET/CT indices and clinical prognostic factors. This study showed that

Suvmax of the lesion should be considered in the treatment plan for stage I non-small cell lung cancer.

OBJECTIVES: High maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) is associated with poorly differentiated tumors and lymph node metastasis. It is still controversial which tumors can be treated with sublobar resection and there are publications stating that SUVmax of the tumor may be important in choosing sublobar resection. Our aim in this study is to examine the prognostic value of tumor SUVmax in stage 1 non-small cell lung cancer and to determine its place in sublobar resection preference. METHODS: The study included 314 patients who underwent wedge resection, segmentectomy or lobectomy for pa

Dual-tracer PET/CT identifies an aggressive PSMA-negative/FDG-positive phenotype predicting early failure of radical prostatectomy in treatment-naive prostate cancer.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The metabolic phenotype of negative prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) and positive [18F]F-fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]F-FDG) uptake is an established indicator of unfavorable prognosis in advanced-stage prostate cancer. It is also associated with resistance to PSMA-targeted therapies. However, its prognostic significance in the preoperative setting for treatment-naive patients scheduled for therapy with curative intent remains to be elucidated. This study aimed to investigate whether metabolic heterogeneity assessed by dual-tracer [68 Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 and [18F]F-FDG P

A dual-tracer approach for enhanced nodal staging in prostate cancer: the role of [18F]FDG PET/CT for detecting [68 Ga]Ga-PSMA-11-negative metastases.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: A subset of newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients harbor occult lymph node metastases (LNM) that are not detected by standard [68 Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT, leading to potential understaging and suboptimal treatment planning. This study investigates the performance of [18F]FDG PET/CT as a secondary imaging tool to identify these PSMA-negative LNM. METHODOLOGY: We retrospectively analyzed 133 patients with newly diagnosed prostate cancer who were considered node-negative (miN0) by [68 Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET. All patients underwent a subsequent [18F]FDG PET/CT scan followed by

18 F-FDG PET/CT and 68 Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT Findings of Gastric Mucosa-associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma Transformation to Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma.

A 66-year-old man with a pathology-confirmed gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma underwent imaging with both 68 Ga-pentixafor and 18 F-FDG PET/CT. The 18 F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated intense FDG uptake in the gastric lesion, whereas the 68 Ga-pentixafor PET/CT showed only minimal tracer uptake. Subsequent histopathologic evaluation confirmed a transformation into aggressive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This case underscores the importance of recognizing atypical imaging patterns to identify histologic transformation and guide timely clinical intervention.

Incidental Pituitary FDG Uptake on PET-CT: A Retrospective Review of Current Practice and Outcomes at a UK Tertiary Centre.

CONTEXT: Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) is widely used in malignancy diagnosis and surveillance. However, benign conditions also increase avidity. Distinguishing between benign and pathological uptake is critical. Rising PET-CT utilisation has led to increased detection of incidental pituitary FDG uptake. Referral pathways and secondary imaging remain inconsistent, and no UK guidelines exist. This study aims to review our current practice and assess the potential role of SUVmax to differentiate physiological from pathological upta

Liver and Kidney Tumor Masses as the Initial Presentation of B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

We described a 13-year-old girl who presented unexplained paroxysmal sharp pain in the right upper abdomen for 3 days. CT and MRI showed multiple masses in the liver and kidneys, initially diagnosed as lymphoma. The hepatic mass biopsy confirmed B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma. FDG PET/CT examination found that the liver and kidney masses demonstrated high metabolic activity, with concomitant increased metabolic activity in the skeleton. Bone marrow biopsy revealed extensive skeletal involvement. The final diagnosis was B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This case highlights the effectiveness

Incorporation of whole-body metabolic tumor burden into current prognostic models for nonsmall cell lung cancer patients with spine metastasis.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Numerous prognostic models are utilized for surgical decision and prognostication in metastatic spine tumors. However, these models often fail to consider the whole-body tumor burden into account, which may be crucial for the prognosis of metastatic cancers. A potential surrogate marker for tumor burden, whole-body metabolic tumor burden (wMTB), can be calculated from total lesion glycolysis (TLG) obtained from 18F-Fludeoxyglucose positive emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) images. PURPOSE: We aimed to improve prognostic power of current models by incorporating wMTB for non

Disease extent according to baseline [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT and molecular subtype: prediction of axillary treatment response after neoadjuvant systemic therapy for breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Axillary disease extent according to baseline [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT combined with pathological axillary treatment response has been proposed to guide de-escalation of axillary treatment for clinically node-positive breast cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant systemic therapy. The aim of this study was to assess whether axillary disease extent according to baseline [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT and breast cancer molecular subtype are predictors of axillary pCR. METHODS: This study included clinically node-positive patients treated with neoadjuvant systemic therapy in

Thoracic SMARCA4-Deficient Undifferentiated Tumor Mimicking a Pleural Mesothelioma on 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

A 72-year-old woman, who was a nonsmoker, presented with chest distress persisting for over 10 days. Plain chest CT revealed thickening of the left pleura accompanied by hydrothorax. Subsequent 18 F-FDG PET/CT showed irregular thickening involving the visceral, parietal, and interlobular pleura on the left side, with diffuse high avidity of 18 F-FDG. The left pleural mesothelioma was suspected initially, but pathological examination from biopsied specimen later confirmed a thoracic SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumor.
