Healthcare resource use and costs under pandemic circumstances in The Netherlands: Results from the lifelines COVID-19 cohort.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to estimate healthcare resource use (HCRU) and direct healthcare costs of COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 condition (PCC) in the Netherlands. METHODS: This study is based on a sub-cohort of the Lifelines general population cohort that repeatedly completed questionnaires during the COVID-19 pandemic. PCC was defined based on increased post-COVID-19 symptom scores compared to individuals' pre-infection symptom scores. Three groups were identified in the cohort: COVID-19 positive participants with PCC (PCC group), COVID-19 positive participants without PCC (COVID-19 group)

Characterizing Postvention Suicide Loss Management Strategies Among Mental Health Clinicians in the United States.

OBJECTIVE: For mental health clinicians (MHCs [Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Psychologists]) patient suicide loss is an "occupational hazard" and can cause serious psychological and behavioral consequences. Understanding which coping strategies drive long-term resilience is essential to developing evidence-based postvention. The Transactional Model of Stress and Coping (TMSC) can help guide development of evidence-based postvention plans/procedures. According to the TMSC, coping with stressful events like a suicide loss is categorized as either problem-focused-changing or addressin

Facility-Level Factors Associated With Aspiration Pneumonia in Japanese Geriatric Health Service Settings: A Nationwide Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Aspiration pneumonia (AP) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in older adults. Facility-level determinants of AP in long-term care settings remain poorly understood. In Japan's long-term care insurance system, geriatric health service facilities differ in their staff composition, care processes, and swallowing support systems, which may influence AP incidence. METHODS: We conducted a nationwide, facility-level cross-sectional study using data from the 2024 Survey on Eating and Swallowing Support conducted by the Japan Association of Geriatric Health Service Facilities. Effect of a Stretching Exercise Program on Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders in Operating Room Nurses: A Quasi-Experimental Study.

BACKGROUND: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are a common occupational health concern among nurses, particularly operating room (OR) nurses because of prolonged static postures and repetitive tasks in confined surgical settings. Here, we evaluated the effect of a structured stretching exercise program for OR nurses on musculoskeletal discomfort. METHODS: A quasi-experimental two-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Using a convenience sample, we recruited OR nurses with musculoskeletal pain or discomfort lasting ≥30 days in the past year from a regional teaching hospital

Prevalence of undernutrition among children on anti-retroviral therapy at comprehensive specialized hospital: a cross-sectional study.

Children living with humanimmuno deficiency virus (CLHIV) are particularly prone to undernutrition. Both HIV/AIDS and undernutrition can lead to progressive deterioration of the immune system, leading to serious opportunistic infections. As a result, undernutrition with CLHIV is associated with a two-fold increase in morbidity and mortality. Evidence on the prevalence and factors associated with undernutrition among CLHIV was still insufficient in the study area. An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 391 CLHIV aged 6 months to 18 years at the anti-retroviral therapy clini

Global burden of drowning and risk factors across 204 countries from 1990 to 2021.

Drowning is a major global public health issue with marked variations in incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) across regions, age groups, and sexes. Although previous studies have examined global trends in drowning, few have comprehensively analyzed regional and national disparities while addressing potential reporting biases and confounding factors. Data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2021, focusing on drowning-related incidence, death rates, and DALYs, and examined trends from 1990 to 2021 across various regions and countries. The study used age-sta

Effects of a sedentary behaviour intervention in emergency dispatch centre phone operators: a study protocol for the SECODIS randomised controlled cross-over trial.

INTRODUCTION: Sedentary behaviour is a public health problem. We mainly have sedentary behaviour at work, transforming them into occupational risk. To our knowledge, there is no intervention study on the reduction of occupational sedentary behaviour in a real work situation and its impact on health and biomarkers of stress. The main objective is to study changes in sedentary behaviour following a behavioural intervention (sit-and-stand desk and cycle ergometer). METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This is a randomised controlled trial in cross-over design conducted in a single centre. The study will be pro
