Composition and Priorities of Multidisciplinary Pediatric Thyroid Programs: A Consensus Statement.

Background: The incidence of pediatric thyroid cancer has been increasing, and care varies due to socioeconomic disparities or differing practice patterns. Clinical guidelines call for care in multidisciplinary teams to minimize variance and provide protocols. Based on expert opinion, we hope to describe the form and function of such multidisciplinary teams for pediatric thyroid programs. Methods: A modified Delphi method to reach consensus statements over two rounds. Twenty-one experts with varying backgrounds responded to each statement on a 9-point Likert scale. Upon completion of the surve

Development and validation of an electronic quality measure for postoperative respiratory failure.

BACKGROUND: Postoperatively, prolonged mechanical ventilation or unplanned intubation-collectively, "postoperative respiratory failure"-has high morbidity and mortality risk, but hospitals' automated ability to detect this complication is currently limited. STUDY DESIGN: We developed an electronic clinical quality measure for postoperative respiratory failure on the basis of input from clinical and quality experts. Using 2022 structured electronic health record data from 12 diverse hospitals encompassing 2 common electronic health record vendors, we retrospectively evaluated criteria for post

Supporting community integration and wellbeing after relocation among older adults living alone: a study protocol for the welcome project in Japan.

BACKGROUND: Japan's population is aging rapidly, and the proportion of older adults living alone is increasing. Some older adults relocate owing to aging housing, health issues, or financial difficulties. In certain cases, they move closer to adult children to improve access to support-referred to in Japan as yobiyose. Such relocations can pose psychosocial risks, including social isolation, depression, and reduced quality of life (QoL), particularly when individuals face challenges in adjusting to unfamiliar communities. Although Japan promotes "Aging in Place," many services rely on self-ini

Empowerment and quality of life in gynecological cancer survivors: Outcomes from a multicenter quasi-experimental cohort study from Norway (the LETSGO trial).

BACKGROUND: Increasing outpatient demands and unmet patient needs necessitate personalized follow-up care for cancer survivors. This study investigated whether a self-management-focused follow-up model improves empowerment and quality of life (QoL) in gynecological cancer survivors compared to standard follow-up. METHODS: Twelve Norwegian hospitals participated in this cohort study. Patients initiating routine follow-up after primary treatment were eligible and allocated to either intervention or standard care follow-up groups based on their treatment hospital. The intervention included nurse

A randomized controlled trial on the effects and acceptability of individual mindfulness techniques - meditation and yoga - on anxiety and depression in people with Parkinson's disease: a study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Between 40 and 50% of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) experience anxiety and depression, associated with impaired physical function, high care dependency and mortality. Recently, the United States National Institutes of Health has urged the implementation of mindfulness practices in chronic illness care. Most research to date has examined the effects on chronically ill patients of complex interventions using a combination of mindfulness techniques. In PD patients, however, such complex modalities appear to hinder the technique mastery. Hence, the aim of this trial is to inve

What are the ethical dilemmas in the decision-making processes of nursing people given electroconvulsive therapy? A critical realist review of qualitative evidence.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: ECT is a treatment which has a long and complicated history. There is no consensus on its effectiveness and there is a great deal of polarized debate as to whether it should be used. MHNs are asked to work with people who are receiving ECT as part of their duties. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: The paper seeks to move beyond the polarized arguments and to consider how MHNs can work with people where ECT is being considered or administered as part of their treatment in a manner which satisfies their professional obligations. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE:

Exploring opportunities & pathways for advanced practice radiation therapy roles in the United States.

The evolution of practice of Radiation Therapy in the United States (U.S.) is inevitable. The scope of a radiation therapists role has progressed with advancing technology, implementation of special procedures and patient care requirements. Internationally, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom have formalized this evolution through the Advanced Practice Radiation Therapist (APRT) role to provide new models of care, to meet growing demands in the practice of Radiation Oncology, to increase efficiency, decrease cost and retain skilled staff (Harnett et al., 2018; Society of Radiographers; Li

Medication decision-making for patients with renal insufficiency in inpatient and outpatient care at a US Veterans Affairs Medical Centre: a qualitative, cognitive task analysis.

BACKGROUND: Many studies identify factors that contribute to renal prescribing errors, but few examine how healthcare professionals (HCPs) detect and recover from an error or potential patient safety concern. Knowledge of this information could inform advanced error detection systems and decision support tools that help prevent prescribing errors. OBJECTIVE: To examine the cognitive strategies that HCPs used to recognise and manage medication-related problems for patients with renal insufficiency. DESIGN: HCPs submitted documentation about medication-related incidents. We then conducted cogn
