[Application of sample-efficient neural network in predicting postoperative facial profiles in skeletal class Ⅱ orthognathic patients].

OBJECTIVE: Soft tissue prediction is of great importance for the surgical design and patients ' satisfaction in orthognathic surgery. Previous studies either rely on elastic mechanical models, such as finite element which involves time-consuming computations, or using artificial intelligence method which require insatiable large patient data. Therefore, in this study, we proposed a more efficient and lightweight method for facial morphology prediction and validated its accuracy. METHODS: A total of 85 skeletal class Ⅱ patients who underwent double jaw surgery performed by the same senior surg

Bio-Inspired Deep Learning for Parkinson's Disease Detection: A Comparative Study Based on Vocal Biomarkers and Archimedean Spiral Analysis.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder worldwide, and its early diagnosis remains a major challenge due to reliance on subjective clinical assessments. This study proposes a bio-inspired computational framework for automatic PD detection that draws explicit architectural inspiration from two biological systems: the hierarchical tonotopic organization of the human auditory cortex, which motivates the design of a 1D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for vocal biomarker analysis, and the basal ganglia-cerebellar motor control circuit, which motivates the

Ultralow Energy Optoelectronic Synapse Using Halide Perovskite/Organic Semiconductor Heterostructure for Neuromorphic Computing, Optical Logic and Wireless Communication.

With the advancement of artificial intelligence, the emulation of biological neural processes through neuromorphic computing has gained significant attention. Artificial optoelectronic synapses have emerged as promising components for neuromorphic computing due to their simple structure, low energy consumption, and ability to overcome the von Neumann bottleneck. Here, we design a multifunctional, energy-efficient optoelectronic synapse based on a formamidinium cesium lead iodide (FAxCs1-xPbI3)/Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) heterojunction in a two-terminal vertical structure. The synaptic devic

Intelligent audit decision support for enterprise related-party transactions based on knowledge graph and graph neural network.

Related-party transactions (RPTs) occupy a central position in contemporary corporate governance, serving as essential channels for resource allocation among affiliated business entities. The growing complexity of ownership arrangements and globalized operations has made RPT auditing increasingly challenging for financial professionals. Traditional audit methodologies struggle with intricate enterprise relationship networks that often span multiple jurisdictions and involve layered ownership through shell companies, rendering manual inspection approaches both time-consuming and incomplete. Apraxic deficits in Alzheimer's disease are associated with altered dynamic connectivity in praxis-related networks.

Apraxia is a common symptom in Alzheimer's disease (AD) that reduces autonomy and quality of life. However, the neural basis underlying apraxia in AD, for example, reflected by functional connectivity (FC) alterations, remains unexplored. We investigated static and dynamic FC using resting-state functional imaging in 14 patients with biomarker-confirmed AD pathology and 14 matched healthy participants. FC was estimated as average (static) and short-term (dynamic) connectivity strengths between motor- and praxis-related functional networks. Recurring connectivity patterns were clustered into dy

Reanimating the past: From historical collections of the placenta and uterus to modern imaging, machine learning, and multiscale modeling.

The placenta and uterus are essential to healthy human pregnancy, yet their complex adaptation and function remain difficult to study, particularly during the second trimester. Historical collections of placenta in situ specimens, including the Boyd, Dixon, and Carnegie Collections, provide rare access to placental and uterine anatomy across developmental stages and pathological conditions. Due to advancements in obstetric care, the preparation and extent of specimens in these collections is uncommon nowadays. They therefore offer a unique window into pregnancy that contemporary imaging cannot

Full-field surrogate modeling of cardiac electrophysiology encoding geometric variability.

Combining physics-based modeling with data-driven methods is critical to enabling the translation of computational methods to clinical use in cardiology. The use of rigorous differential equations combined with machine learning tools allows for model personalization with uncertainty quantification in time frames compatible with clinical practice. However, accurate and efficient surrogate models of cardiac function, built from physics-based numerical simulation, are still mostly geometry-specific and require retraining for different patients and pathological conditions. We propose a novel compu

Photographing Alopecia: How Many Pixels Are Needed for Clinical Evaluation?

Determining the minimum image resolution needed for clinical assessment is crucial for computational efficiency, image standardization, and storage needs alleviation. In this paper, we explore the image resolution requirements for the assessment of alopecia by analyzing how clinicians detect the presence of characteristics needed to quantify the disorder in the clinic. By setting the image resolution as a function of width of the patient's head, we mimicked experiments conducted in the computer vision field to understand human perception in the context of scene recognition and object detection

New diagnostic EEG markers of the Alzheimer's disease using visibility graph.

A new chaos-wavelet approach is presented for electroencephalogram (EEG)-based diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) employing a recently developed concept in graph theory, visibility graph (VG). The approach is based on the research ideology that nonlinear features may not reveal differences between AD and control group in the band-limited EEG, but may represent noticeable differences in certain sub-bands. Hence, complexity of EEGs is computed using the VGs of EEGs and EEG sub-bands produced by wavelet decomposition. Two methods are employed for computation of complexity of the VGs: one based

Projections from bed nuclei of the stria terminalis, anteromedial area: cerebral hemisphere integration of neuroendocrine, autonomic, and behavioral aspects of energy balance.

The anteromedial area of the bed nuclei of the stria terminalis (BSTam) is the relatively undifferentiated region of the anterior medial (anteromedial) group of the bed nuclei of the stria terminalis (BSTamg), which also includes the more distinct dorsomedial, magnocellular, and ventral nuclei. The overall pattern of axonal projections from the rat BSTam was analyzed with the Phaseolus vulgaris-leucoagglutinin anterograde pathway tracing method. Brain areas receiving relatively moderate to strong inputs from the BSTam fall into five general categories: neuroendocrine system (regions containing

Global and local excitation and inhibition shape the dynamics of the cortico-striatal-thalamo-cortical pathway.

The cortico-striatal-thalamo-cortical (CSTC) pathway is a brain circuit that controls movement execution, habit formation and reward. Hyperactivity in the CSTC pathway is involved in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), a neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by the execution of repetitive involuntary movements. The striatum shapes the activity of the CSTC pathway through the coordinated activation of two classes of medium spiny neurons (MSNs) expressing D1 or D2 dopamine receptors. The exact mechanisms by which balanced excitation/inhibition (E/I) of these cells controls the network dynamic

The integration of optical sensing with neuromorphic computing offers a promising pathway to overcome the von Neumann bottleneck in data-intensive artificial intelligence applications. However, realizing robust nonvolatile storage with synergistic electrical and optical modulation in 2D devices remains a challenge. Here, we demonstrate a high-performance floating-gate memory based on a ReS2/h-BN/Ta2NiSe5 van der Waals heterostructure. Under precise photo-electrical cooperative modulation, the device exhibits excellent nonvolatile memory characteristics, including a large memory window of 96.2

Dual SOT Switching Modes in a Single Device Geometry for Neuromorphic Computing.

Neuromorphic computing aims to replicate the brain's efficient processing through artificial neurons and synapses, requiring binary and multilevel switching. We present a PtMn/(Co/Pd)4/Ta device that uniquely enables dual spin-orbit torque (SOT) switching modes─binary and multilevel (analog)─within the same geometry and stack structure, eliminating the need for device modifications. Binary SOT switching is achieved via domain wall nucleation and propagation at moderate current levels (∼65 mA), while multilevel switching occurs via domain nucleation mode without significant propagation after a

Simplified Convolutional Neural Network Application for Cervix Type Classification via Colposcopic Images.

The inner parts of the human body are usually inspected endoscopically using special equipment. For instance, each part of the female reproductive system can be examined endoscopically (laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and colposcopy). The primary purpose of colposcopy is the early detection of malignant lesions of the cervix. Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide, especially in middle- and low-income countries. Therefore, there is a growing demand for approaches that aim to detect precancerous lesions, ideally without quality loss. Despite its high efficiency, th

pNitro-Tyr-PseAAC: Predict Nitrotyrosine Sites in Proteins by Incorporating Five Features into Chou's General PseAAC.

BACKGROUND: Closely related to causes of various diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, septic shock, and coeliac disease; tyrosine nitration is considered as one of the most important post-translational modification in proteins. Inside a cell, protein modifications occur accurately by the action of sophisticated cellular machinery. Specific enzymes present in endoplasmic reticulum accomplish this task. The identification of potential tyrosine residues in a protein primary sequence, which can be nitrated, is a challenging task. METHODS: To counter the prevailing, laborious and time-consuming
