Intelligent method to predict intensive care unit admission after drainage operation in patients with deep neck space abscess: A multicenter retrospective study.

BACKGROUNDS: A deep neck space abscess (DNSA) is a critical condition resulting from infection of deep neck fascia and soft issue, leading to high morbidity and mortality. Therefore, intensive care can be very significant for patients with DNSA. This study aimed to develop models to predict the need for postoperative intensive care in patients with DNSA. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the records of 332 patients with DNSA who received drainage operation between 2015 and 2020. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and the eXtrem Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm were used to deve

Clinical tools and biomarkers to predict preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia is pregnancy-specific, and significantly contributes to maternal, and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. An effective predictive test for preeclampsia would facilitate early diagnosis, targeted surveillance and timely delivery; however limited options currently exist. A first-trimester screening algorithm has been developed and validated to predict preterm preeclampsia, with poor utility for term disease, where the greatest burden lies. Biomarkers such as sFlt-1 and placental growth factor are also now being used clinically in cases of suspected preterm preeclampsia; the

Applied Research on the Combination of Weighted Network and Supervised Learning in Acupoints Compatibility.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

To enhance the depth of excavation and promote the intelligence of acupoint compatibility, a method of constructing weighted network, which combines the attributes of acupoints and supervised learning, is proposed for link prediction. Medical cases of cervical spondylosis with acupuncture treatment are standardized, and a weighted network is constructed according to acupoint attributes. Multiple similarity features are extracted from the network and input into a supervised learning model for prediction. And, the performance of the algorithm is evaluated through evaluation indicators. The exper

A new approach using the Pierce two-node model for different body parts.

This paper presents a new approach, in applying the Pierce two-node model, to predict local skin temperatures of individual body parts with good accuracy. In this study, local skin temperature measurements at 24 sites on the bodies of 11 human subjects were carried out in a controlled environment under three different indoor conditions (i.e. neutral, warm and cold). The neutral condition measurements were used to adjust the local skin set-points in the model for each body part. Additional modifications to the calculation algorithm were introduced corresponding to different body parts. The loca

Mortality prediction and influencing factors for intensive care unit patients with acute tubular necrosis: random survival forest and cox regression analysis.

Background: Patients with acute tubular necrosis (ATN) not only have severe renal failure, but also have many comorbidities, which can be life-threatening and require timely treatment. Identifying the influencing factors of ATN and taking appropriate interventions can effectively shorten the duration of the disease to reduce mortality and improve patient prognosis. Methods: Mortality prediction models were constructed by using the random survival forest (RSF) algorithm and the Cox regression. Next, the performance of both models was assessed by the out-of-bag (OOB) error rate, the integrated b

Prediction of the origin of French Legionella pneumophila strains using a mixed-genome microarray.

BACKGROUND: Legionella is a water and soil bacterium that can infect humans, causing a pneumonia known as Legionnaires' disease. The pneumonia is almost exclusively caused by the species L. pneumophila, of which serogroup 1 is responsible for 90% of patients. Within serogroup 1, large differences in prevalence in clinical isolates have been described. A recent study, using a Dutch Legionella strain collection, identified five virulence associated markers. In our study, we verify whether these five Dutch markers can predict the patient or environmental origin of a French Legionella strain colle

Does the SORG Machine-learning Algorithm for Extremity Metastases Generalize to a Contemporary Cohort of Patients? Temporal Validation From 2016 to 2020.

BACKGROUND: The ability to predict survival accurately in patients with osseous metastatic disease of the extremities is vital for patient counseling and guiding surgical intervention. We, the Skeletal Oncology Research Group (SORG), previously developed a machine-learning algorithm (MLA) based on data from 1999 to 2016 to predict 90-day and 1-year survival of surgically treated patients with extremity bone metastasis. As treatment regimens for oncology patients continue to evolve, this SORG MLA-driven probability calculator requires temporal reassessment of its accuracy. QUESTION/PURPOSE: Do

Activities of daily living with bionic arm improved by combination training and latching filter in prosthesis control comparison.

BACKGROUND: Advanced prostheses can restore function and improve quality of life for individuals with amputations. Unfortunately, most commercial control strategies do not fully utilize the rich control information from residual nerves and musculature. Continuous decoders can provide more intuitive prosthesis control using multi-channel neural or electromyographic recordings. Three components influence continuous decoder performance: the data used to train the algorithm, the algorithm, and smoothing filters on the algorithm's output. Individual groups often focus on a single decoder, so very f

Investigating the impact of feature extraction methods on prediction accuracy of neurological recovery levels in comatose patients post-cardiac arrest.

Cardiac arrest can cause irreversible Post-Cardiac Arrest Brain Injury (PCABI), but predicting PCABI with certainty remains challenging. This study aims to improve prognostication by predicting neurological recovery using EEG data from the 'I-CARE: International Cardiac Arrest Research Consortium Database.' Data were preprocessed with an FIR Equiripple Bandpass Filter, and three feature extraction methods were applied. Decision Tree, KNN, SVM, and Ensemble Learning algorithms were evaluated using F1-Score, Accuracy, and ROC-AUC. The highest accuracy, 0.89, was achieved with Hamming-windowed st

Risk factors for long-term care after hemiplegia from cancer-related brain surgery: a pilot study for new prediction model.

BACKGROUND: Hemiplegia is a worldwide-represented neurological condition leading to long-term disability. The most common cause of hemiplegia is stroke; 25% to 50% of stroke survivors require some assistance after hospital discharge; approximately half of them become dependent, while only 14% achieve full recovery of activities of daily living (ADL). Cancer and cancer-related surgery are other causes of hemiplegia and rehabilitation in cancer patients has been recognized as important factor in order to help maintaining quality of life as long as possible. Many studies have been done in order t

Predicting drug solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide green solvent using machine learning models based on thermodynamic properties.

Reliable prediction of drug solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO₂) is crucial for the efficient design of pharmaceutical processes, including particle engineering and supercritical fluid-based extraction. Given that experimental determination of drug solubility in scCO₂ is costly and time-consuming, this study employs machine learning models to predict drug solubility in scCO₂, offering the advantage over thermodynamic models and empirical correlations of being able to predict the solubility of drugs beyond the model's training range. In this work, authors use CatBoost, XGBoost, Li

Prediction of noninvasive ventilation failure: a narrative review.

With the increasing clinical application of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) and the accumulation of evidence-based medical data, NIV has become an important therapeutic intervention for various types of respiratory failure. However, a subset of patients still experience NIV failure. Compared with those with successful NIV, patients who develop NIV failure tend to have a poorer prognosis and an elevated risk of mortality. Therefore, the accurate identification and early prediction of NIV failure risk are crucial for guiding clinical decision-making and optimizing treatment strategies. This articl

AI-Based QRS Onset Detection in the Early Ventricular Activation Site ECGs.

Identifying the onset of the QRS complex is an important step for localizing the site of origin (SOO) of premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) and the exit site of Ventricular Tachycardia (VT). However, identifying the QRS onset is challenging due to signal noise, baseline wander, motion artifact, and muscle artifact. Furthermore, in VT, QRS onset detection is especially difficult due to the overlap with repolarization from the prior beat. In this study, 7706 captured bipolar pacing beats (Stim-QRS < 40 ms) pooled from 384 anatomically widely dispersed pacing sites of 15 patients were used fo

New risk factor classified by intramucosal polypoid/non-polypoid growth pattern in earlycolorectal cancer.

The lymph node metastasis (LNM) rate of submucosal invasive colorectal cancer (pT1 CRC) is low (approximately 10%), even when the risk factors for LNM outlined in the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum (JSCCR) guidelines for endoscopically resected lesions are present. To ensure that patients receive appropriate treatment, novel factors that link endoscopic and pathological diagnoses and more accurately predict LNM are needed. Polypoid growth (PG)/non-polypoid growth (NPG) classification, depth of submucosal invasion and stalk status are examples of such interconnected factors

Deep learning algorithms from histopathological images stratify molecular subtypes for leiomyosarcoma: a proof-and-concept diagnostic study.

BACKGROUND: The leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma, and its molecular subtypes were identified with therapeutic sensitivity and prognosis. We aimed to develop and validate deep learning (DL) algorithms to stratify molecular subtypes and predict survival by using single hematoxylin-eosin stained whole slide images (WSIs). METHODS: The DL models were trained on the single WSIs ( n = 154, tiles = 1 579 215) from The Cancer Genome Atlas, and externally tested in a multicenter cohort from real world ( n = 80, tiles = 555 211).
