Development of novel composite data quality scores to evaluate facility-level data quality in electronic data in Kenya: a nationwide retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: In this evaluation, we aim to strengthen Routine Health Information Systems (RHIS) through the digitization of data quality assessment (DQA) processes. We leverage electronic data from the Kenya Health Information System (KHIS) which is based on the District Health Information System version 2 (DHIS2) to perform DQAs at scale. We provide a systematic guide to developing composite data quality scores and use these scores to assess data quality in Kenya. METHODS: We evaluated 187 HIV care facilities with electronic medical records across Kenya. Using quarterly, longitudinal KHIS dat

Enhancing Adverse Event Identification and Management in Early-Phase Oncology Clinical Trials: The Emerging Role of Advanced Practice Providers.

BackgroundAdverse events (AEs) are unintended, harmful effects that occur in clinical trials, particularly in early-phase oncology clinical trials (EPOCT), where the risk of adverse effects from experimental therapies is high. Effective AE identification and management are essential for ensuring patient safety, improving outcomes, and advancing research. Advanced practice providers (APPs) play a key role in detecting and managing AEs, serving as a bridge between clinical care and research. However, their full impact on EPOCT remains underexplored.PurposeThis integrative review examines existin

Usability of Self-Management for Amputee Rehabilitation using Technology (SMART): An online self-management program for users with lower limb loss.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with lower limb loss (LLL) need education to adapt to their amputation. Self-management programs provide education and supportive skills to manage health-related physical and psychological challenges. eHealth technologies, such as online platforms, are increasing access to educational resources. We designed an online self-management program for individuals with LLL called Self-Management for Amputee Rehabilitation using Technology (SMART); however, before evaluating its efficacy, we wanted to understand its appropriateness in the target population. OBJECTIVE: To assess

Concussion in Combination With Whiplash-Associated Disorder May Be Missed in Primary Care: Key Recommendations for Assessment and Management.

Whiplash and concussion may have similar presenting symptoms, biomechanical mechanisms, and neurophysiological sequelae, but neither enjoys a gold standard diagnostic test. Guidelines for whiplash and concussion are developed and implemented separately. This disparate process may contribute to misdiagnosis, delay appropriate primary care management, and impair patient outcomes. In our clinical commentary, we present 3 cases where signs and symptoms consistent with whiplash were identified in primary care. Symptoms in all cases included neck pain, headache, dizziness, and concentration deficits

Financial Toxicity and Treatment Satisfaction Among Lebanese Patients With Cancer: Indirect Associations Involving Psychological Distress.

PURPOSE: Lebanon's ongoing economic collapse has severely disrupted access to cancer care and increased out-of-pocket financial burden for patients. Financial toxicity and psychological distress are recognized barriers to treatment experience and adherence, yet little is known about how these factors interact within collapsing health systems. This study assessed whether psychological distress is indirectly associated between financial toxicity and treatment satisfaction among Lebanese adults with cancer. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 308 adult patients with cancer rece

The Pediatric Autism Research Cohort (PARC) Study: protocol for a patient-oriented prospective study examining trajectories of functioning in children with autism.

INTRODUCTION: The developmentally variable nature of autism poses challenges in providing timely services tailored to a child's needs. Despite a recent focus on longitudinal research, priority-setting initiatives with stakeholders highlighted the importance of studying a child's day-to-day functioning and social determinants of health to inform clinical care. To address this, we are conducting a pragmatic multi-site, patient-oriented longitudinal investigation: the Pediatric Autism Research Cohort (PARC) Study. In young children (<7 years of age) newly diagnosed with autism, we will: (1) exami

Study protocol to develop a patient-reported outcome measuring disability associated with unilateral vocal fold paralysis: a mixed-methods approach with the CoPE collaborative.

INTRODUCTION: Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures are increasingly developed with multisite, representative patient populations so that they can serve as a primary endpoint in clinical trials and longitudinal studies. Creating multisite infrastructure during PRO measure development can facilitate future comparative effectiveness trials. We describe our protocol to simultaneously develop a PRO measure and create a collaborative of tertiary care centres to address the needs of patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP). We describe the stakeholder engagement, information technology

The influence of the initiation of an exercise programme on seroma formation and dehiscence following breast cancer surgery.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To verify whether early (first post-operative day) or late initiation (after removal of the continuous suction drain) of a functional rehabilitation exercise programme influences the incidence of seroma formation and dehiscence for women after breast cancer surgery. BACKGROUND: Benefits of early implementation of an exercise programme initiated with women in the first days following breast cancer surgery are widely known. However, the safe initiation of the exercises is still a controversial issue and some authors correlate early initiation of the exercises with an increa

Identifying social prescribing core outcomes using a Delphi approach: findings and future directions.

UNLABELLED: Although social prescribing is a growing global health and social movement, no Delphi studies have determined which outcomes are critical to assess. Our aim was to identify a core outcome set based on feedback from diverse user groups of people who could be affected by (e.g. adults ≥ 60 years) or who can affect (e.g. providers, researchers) social prescribing. METHODS: Following standard guidelines for Delphi studies, we developed a two-round online survey with a focus on Canadian perspectives. We asked participants to rate 21 outcomes as "critical" (7-9 on a 9-point scale), "impo

Evaluating the efficacy of an SMS text message information and support programme for people who have experienced a motor vehicle-related injury: protocol for a double-blind randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Road traffic injuries can be physically and emotionally challenging, and navigating compensation processes may increase uncertainty and distress. Early high distress is linked with poorer long-term recovery, including persistent pain and delayed return to work. Digital health tools, particularly brief, scalable SMS programmes, may offer timely information and emotional support during recovery. This protocol outlines a double-blind randomised controlled trial evaluating the efficacy, feasibility and acceptability of an SMS-delivered health information and support programme for peo

A pragmatic implementation and outcomes evaluation of the older persons emergency network acute outreach service (OPEN AOS) model utilising the integrated PRISM and RE-AIM framework: the OPEN AOS study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Globally, the population aged 65 years and over is increasing and with this growth comes a rising risk of chronic diseases that often require emergency care. Older adults living in Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs) have increased healthcare utilisation including visits to Emergency Departments (EDs). EDs are busy, noisy environments poorly suited to meeting the care needs of older adults. Older adults attending EDs often receive delayed and fragmented care, unnecessary procedures and tests and are at greater risk of iatrogenic complications. The Older Person’s Emergency Netw
