BACKGROUND: Femoropopliteal percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) remains limited by restenosis. Although vascular brachytherapy may be effective in reducing restenosis, external beam radiation would be more practical to administer after PTA.

Extramedullary meningeal hematopoiesis (EMH) represents an uncommon finding after stem-cell transplantation. The mechanistic influence of a single, localized 10-, 20- or 30-Gy dose of radiation on painful behaviors, osteolysis, histopathology and osteoclast number was evaluated in mice with painful femoral sarcomas. Dramatic reductions in pain behaviors (P < 0.05) and osteolysis (P < 0.0001) were seen in mice irradiated with 20 and 30 Gy. The effect of cranial radiation therapy (CRT) on visual attention was examined in long-term survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) compared to peers with no history of ALL (n = 24) using a cued orienting task and a global-local task. The CD53 antigen is a member of the tetraspanin membrane protein family that is expressed in the lymphoid-myeloid lineage. Its biological role remains unknown. Acute radiation dermatitis is an uncommon complication of fluoroscopic procedures. Cases secondary to cardiac catheterization are infrequently reported in the literature. The risk of developing this reaction is directly related to the skin dose of radiation, which is affected by the type of procedure, the technique used to achieve appropriate penetration, the duration of exposure, and the patient's body habitus. We report a case of acute radiation dermatitis following prolonged coronary angiography initially presenting as a fixed drug eruption.

A 19-year-old man with a pure germinoma in the pineal region was successfully treated with chemotherapy followed by 24 Gy local irradiation. Eight months later, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging detected ventricular wall dissemination outside the radiation field.
