Optimism in inclusion body myositis: a double-blind randomised controlled phase III trial investigating the effect of sirolimus on disease progression in patients with IBM as measured by the IBM Functional Rating Scale.

OBJECTIVES: Inclusion body myositis (IBM) is a complex inflammatory muscle disease in adults over 40, with histological features of autoinflammation, cell stress and autophagic abnormalities, and marked clinically by relentless progression with no effective disease-modifying therapy. Sirolimus (rapamycin) may help maintain function by inhibiting T effector cells, preserving T regulatory cells, inducing autophagy, and improving mitochondrial function. This international trial follows a phase II pilot study. METHODS: This phase IIb/III double-blind, randomised, controlled trial (RCT) of sirolim

Viability of Structured Gait Retraining for Improving Clinical Outcomes Following Running-related Injury in Active Duty Service Members.

INTRODUCTION: All branches of the U.S. Military have a running component of their physical readiness testing battery. Running-related musculoskeletal injuries affect 20 to 40% of DoD Service Members each year. Running form has not historically been addressed with military running-related injuries. To assess the utility of a structured gait retaining protocol designed to treat the onset of running-related pain and/or injury by correcting identified biomechanical risk factors for injury and improve clinical outcomes. STUDY DESIGN: Case series. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 160 Active Duty

Monolithic hybrid abutment crowns: Influence of crown height, crown morphology and material on the implant-abutment complex.

PURPOSE: This in vitro study investigated the influence of material selection, crown morphology, and vertical crown height on the biomechanical behavior of screw-retained monolithic hybrid abutment crowns (HACs). METHODS: Ninety implants were embedded in accordance with ISO standard 14801; ninety HACs were mounted (N=90). Monolithic crowns with varying group-specific designs were luted using titanium bases. HACs were fabricated from monolithic lithium disilicate ceramic (LD) or zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate ceramic (ZLS). The crown morphology was either maxillary premolar (LD_PM, ZLS_P

Low back pain(LBP) is the most common musculoskeletal disorder in adults. According to previous studies medical students were found vulnerable for the development of LBP. We assessed the prevalence of LBP and associated factors among Medical students in Wachemo University, Southern Ethiopia. An institution-based cross-sectional study design and simple random sampling technique was employed to select 370 medical students. A structured pretested interviewer administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. The data were entered into Epi-info version 3.1 and analysed by SPSS version 25. An

Hemodynamic Safety and Effect of Dexmedetomidine on Superficial Cervical Block Quality for Carotid Endarterectomy: A Prospective Study.

OBJECTIVE: Dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to local anesthetics (LAs) in regional anesthesia has demonstrated a positive effect on the quality of regional blocks, but there are no studies on usage in superficial cervical block (SCB) for carotid endarterectomy (CEA), in which the management of mean arterial pressure is essential. The authors designed a prospective, randomized, double-blinded study to investigate the effects of the addition of dexmedetomidine on the hemodynamic management and quality of SCB. DESIGN: A prospective, randomized, double-blinded study. SETTING: A single-center study

Investigating the Efficacy and Safety of Diacerein in the Management of Knee Osteoarthritis with reference to its conventional management.

BACKGROUND: Designated as a "priority disease" by World Health Organization, Osteoarthritis is the most common chronic rheumatic disease. Providing a proper treatment for Osteoarthritis is still a major public health challenge. Diacerein has been proposed as a slow acting, symptom modifying or even disease modifying drug used in Osteoarthritis having a risk-benefit ratio far better than conventionally used drugs. However, the evidence of efficacy and safety of use of Diacerein in Osteoarthritis is yet to be explored. Hence, this study attempted to investigate the efficacy and safety of Diacere

Naloxone Prescribing in an Academic Emergency Department: Provider Practices and Attitudes.

INTRODUCTION: Naloxone reverses opioid overdose, but it is not universally prescribed. With increases in opioid-related emergency department visits, emergency medicine providers are in a unique position to identify and treat opioid-related injury, but little is known about their attitudes and practices around naloxone prescribing. We hypothesized that emergency medicine providers would identify multifactorial barriers to naloxone prescribing and report varying levels of naloxone-prescribing behaviors. METHODS: A survey designed to assess attitudes and behaviors regarding naloxone prescribing

Yoga and Mindfulness Intervention for Concussion Recovery.

Concussion imposes a substantial global health burden, and few evidence-based treatments that approach concussion treatment holistically are available. Moreover, early intervention is important before concussion symptoms become chronic and more refractory to treatment. In this pilot study, we evaluated the tolerability of a protocol called Mindfulness and Yoga for Treatment After Concussion (MYTAC), which was specifically designed for individuals with concussion. We also explored the possible benefit of the MYTAC protocol for concussion recovery. Participants were 15-60 years old with recent c
