BACKGROUND: Oxygen transport is altered in hemoglobinopathies.
AIM: To study the distribution of hemoglobinopathies in Andean subjects without African ancestry.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We analyzed blood samples of 1,407 subjects aged 18 to 59 years (58% females), living in the central Andean region of Colombia, referred to discard hemoglobinopathies. The frequency and type of hemoglobinopathy was established by capillary and agarose gel electrophoresis.

We are reporting a case of a capillary haemangioma-like proliferation arising within a parathyroid gland adenoma, associated with primary hyperparathyroidism. Peroral pancreatovideoscopy (POPS) has been recognized as a new diagnostic tool for clear imaging of IPMN. We have studied the vasoconstrictor potency of ornipressin in the skin of 30 volunteers. Subjects received intradermal injections (50 microliters) of five different concentrations of ornipressin (10(-4) - 10(0) u. ml-1 in 0.9% saline) and plain 0.9% saline as a control. The oral signs and symptoms in 32 patients with systemic sclerosis were evaluated. Oral mucosal telangiectasia was present in 18 cases (56.3%) and was not restricted to the limited form of systemic sclerosis.
