Robustness and reproducibility of radiomics in T2 weighted images from magnetic resonance image guided linear accelerator in a phantom study.

PURPOSE: Quantitative radiomics features extracted from medical images have been shown to provide value in predicting clinical outcomes. The study for robustness and reproducibility of radiomics features obtained with magnetic resonance image guided linear accelerator (MR-Linac) is insufficient. The objective of this work was to investigate the stability of radiomics features extracted from T2-weighted images of MR-Linac for five common effect factors. MATERIALS AND METHOD: In this work, ten jellies, five fruits/vegetables, and a dynamic phantom were used to evaluate the impact of test-retest

Fixed angle device comparison in young femoral neck fractures: Dynamic hip screw vs dynamic helical hip system.

INTRODUCTION: Femoral neck fractures in the young patient present a unique challenge. Most surgeons managing these injuries prefer a fixed angle implant, however these devices are fraught with problems. A dynamic hip screw (DHS) is one such fixed angle device that risks malreduction through rotational torque during screw insertion. To avoid this risk some surgeons utilize a dynamic helical hip system (DHHS), however little is known about the complication profile of this device. We hypothesized that the complication rate between these two devices would be similar. PATIENTS AND METHODS: All pat

The illusion of conformity: when independent learning mimics social influence.

Although individuals tested in isolation often show substantial behavioral variation, they tend to behave more uniformly in groups, a pattern commonly attributed to social conformity (ie, a form of social learning in which individuals preferentially adopt the most common trait). However, evidence for social conformity in nonhuman animals remains debated, as group-level convergence can also arise from independent learning, where individuals adopt the trait maximizing their fitness. Such learning can generate either adaptive phenotypic convergence or pseudo-conformity when aligning with the grou

β-Cell Dysfunction and Altered Thyroid Hormone Dynamics in Post-COVID Metabolic Disturbances: An Immunometabolic Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: SARS-CoV-2 infection has been associated with metabolic disturbances and endocrine alterations, including effects on pancreatic β-cell function and thyroid hormone regulation. However, the relationship between thyroid function and β-cell compensatory capacity in the post-COVID state remains unclear. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated β-cell compensation (HOMA-B/HOMA-IR) and thyroid parameters in three groups: patients with active COVID-19, individuals with post-COVID metabolic disturbances, and a COVID-negative metabolic syndrome reference group. Thyroid status wa

Protein Z and Protein Z Complex in the Acute Phase of Ischemic Stroke: Potential Markers of Coagulation and Prognostic Value in Patients Treated with Thrombolysis or Conservative Therapy.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Protein Z (PZ) and the protein Z-dependent protease inhibitor (ZPI) are vitamin K-dependent regulators of coagulation that inhibit activated factor Xa. Their relevance in ischemic stroke (IS) remains insufficiently characterized, with inconsistent evidence regarding their association with stroke severity and outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the concentrations and dynamics of PZ and ZPI in the acute phase of IS in patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis or conservative therapy and to assess their potential prognostic significance. METHODS: Eighty-four patien

Hyperactivity is linked to elevated cortisol levels: comprehensive behavioral analysis in the prenatal valproic acid-induced marmoset model of autism.

Hyperactivity is frequently observed in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and significantly affects various aspects of life. This underscores the critical need for effective intervention methods tailored to the needs of individuals with ASD. Non-human primate models offer a promising avenue for elucidating the intricate interplay between ASD characteristics and developing individualized therapeutic strategies. This study examined the activity levels and behavioral dynamics in a prenatal valproic acid-induced (VPA) common marmoset model of ASD using ultraminiature data loggers, em

Ovulatory release and oviductal recovery after Intrafollicular Transfer of Immature Oocytes (IFIOT) in cattle.

Intrafollicular transfer of immature oocytes (IFIOT) is an emerging reproductive biotechnology that enables oocyte maturation, fertilization, and early embryonic development to occur in vivo. Despite its feasibility, IFIOT efficiency remains low, and the stages at which losses occur are not well defined. This study aimed to evaluate early post-ovulatory events after IFIOT by directly recovering structures from the oviduct, with particular emphasis on ovulatory release and early recovery dynamics under different oocyte loads. Immature cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were recovered from slaughte

The Role of Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate in Reducing the Risk of Bladder Cancer Recurrence and Progression.

BACKGROUND: Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) and urinary retention were recognized contributing factors to bladder cancer (BCa) recurrence and progression due to prolonged urothelial exposure to carcinogens, chronic inflammation, and incomplete bladder emptying. Holmium laser enucleation of prostate (HoLEP) is a minimally invasive and highly effective procedure that completely removes obstructive prostatic tissue, thus resolving BOO. To explore the HoLEP impact on BCa recurrence and progression by improving voiding dynamics and reducing post-void residual (PVR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We carr

Individual variation in activity budgets of a stable population of killer whales in managed care across a year.

Activity budget investigations are necessary to understand how individuals within a group manage their daily activities, thus providing insights into the social dynamics of a species. Our objective was to explore and describe the behavioral activities within a group of managed care killer whales. From 261 hours of coded surface video collected from April 2022 to January 2023, we scan-sampled day-time hours to examine eight behavioral categories exhibited by 8-9 killer whales bimonthly. Minimal sex differences were found within each behavioral category across month and hour block. Females exhib
