46 patients having exacerbation of duodenal ulcer in the presence of Helicobacter pylori (HP) were studied for efficacy of HP eradication treatment which comprised omeprazole (40 mg/day), colloid bismuth subcitrate (480 mg/day) and metronidazole (1000 mg/day) for 2 weeks. BACKGROUND: It has previously been shown that corpus-dominant grade and activity of Helicobacter pylori gastritis in combination with intestinal metaplasia in the antrum or corpus are risk markers for the development of stomach cancer. The BabA, cagA, and vacA statuses of 827 Helicobacter pylori isolates were used in logistic regression models to discriminate duodenal ulcer from gastritis. Only BabA was a candidate for a universal virulence factor, but the low c statistic value (0.581) indicates that none of these factors were helpful in predicting the clinical presentation.
