Early recognition of sepsis-associated acute kidney injury based on BioBERT-BPNN multimodal clinical data analysis.

BACKGROUND: Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) is a common and serious complication in intensive care units, marked by high incidence, rapid disease progression, and poor clinical outcomes. Due to its complex pathophysiology and nonspecific clinical manifestations, early recognition of SA-AKI remains highly challenging. METHODS: This study aims to achieve early recognition of SA-AKI using clinical records of sepsis patients. A dual-center dataset of sepsis patients is constructed by integrating 1,000 cases from the publicly available MIMIC-IV database and 400 cases from the electr

Household dietary gatekeepers' perceptions of home cooking and its associated factors: A qualitative inquiry from urban India.

The high consumption of calorie-dense, nutrient-poor meals from out of home sources has been identified as a potential risk factor for the growing burden of obesity and diet-related chronic degenerative diseases among urban Indians. Consumption of home cooked meals is linked with positive dietary and health outcomes. However, little is known about the views of Indians regarding home cooking. Therefore, this investigation was designed to qualitatively explore urban Indian nutritional gatekeepers' perceptions of home cooking and the factors influencing it. The social constructivism theoretical f

A Bilingual Readability Assessment of Online Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment Information.

INTRODUCTION: Presenting health information at a sixth-grade reading level is advised to accommodate the general public's abilities. Breast cancer (BC) is the second-most common malignancy in women, but the readability of online BC information in English and Spanish, the two most commonly spoken languages in the United States, is uncertain. METHODS: Three search engines were queried using: "how to do a breast examination," "when do I need a mammogram," and "what are the treatment options for breast cancer" in English and Spanish. Sixty websites in each language were studied and classified by

Cortical auditory evoked potentials, brain signal variability and cognition as biomarkers to detect the presence of chronic tinnitus.

The current limited understanding of tinnitus neurophysiology is one of the major obstacles in developing effective treatments for chronic tinnitus. As such, there is an urgent need for knowledge on underlying neural and/or neurobehavioral correlates that might function as potential biomarkers for tinnitus. We aimed to develop a model for the detection of tinnitus cases based on such potential biomarkers. In a first step, data from twenty patients suffering from chronic tinnitus, but no concurrent hearing loss or psychological complaints, were compared to data from twenty matched controls. Cor

Etiology of work-related electrical injuries: a narrative analysis of workers' compensation claims.

The purpose of this study was to provide new insight into the etiology of primarily nonfatal, work-related electrical injuries. We developed a multistage, case-selection algorithm to identify electrical-related injuries from workers' compensation claims and a customized coding taxonomy to identify pre-injury circumstances. Workers' compensation claims routinely collected over a 1-year period from a large U.S. insurance provider were used to identify electrical-related injuries using an algorithm that evaluated: coded injury cause information, nature of injury, "accident" description, and injur

Maternal psychological adjustment and knowledge of infant development as predictors of home safety practices in rural low-income communities.

BACKGROUND: Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death among toddlers in the United States. Toddlers spend the majority of time at home, and the use of recommended safety practices can prevent many injuries. OBJECTIVE: Maternal psychological adjustment and understanding of child development are thought to influence the implementation of safety practices; however, the extent to which either factor is related has been examined with small samples and without attention to potential confounding. We hypothesize that mothers' use of safety practices will be higher when mothers have more know

Understanding digital diffusion and online decision-making in public health promotion: a sequential mixed-methods study of the violence prevention charter in Canada.

Digital environments have become important settings for public health promotion, yet dissemination alone does not explain why individuals and organizations choose to adopt and act on public health information. Understanding digital diffusion requires attention to temporal patterns of adoption, the social networks through which information and influence circulate, and the contextual conditions that shape decision-making. This sequential mixed-methods single case study examined the dissemination and voluntary adoption of the Violence Prevention Charter, a principles-based public health initiativ

Leveraging Large Language Models in Extracting Drug Safety Information from Prescription Drug Labels.

INTRODUCTION: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs), including those resulting from drug interactions, remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Structured product labels (SPLs) serve as a primary source for drug safety information. Having machine-readable product labels, including adverse reactions (ARs) and drug interactions, readily available would allow researchers to streamline medication safety studies. However, extracting this information is complex and requires the use of natural language processing (NLP) methods. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we explored the application of generative la

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of Escherichia coli isolated from the chicken liver in relation to slaughterhouse conditions.

Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) has been identified as a sub-group of extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC). Recent studies indicate APEC as a potential foodborne zoonotic pathogen and a source or reservoir of human extraintestinal infections. The slaughtering and processing of poultry in low-income countries such as Jordan occurs in two distinct ways: in informal facilities known as Natafat and in formal slaughterhouses. This study compared E. coli phenotypes and genotypes according to slaughtering conditions (formal slaughterhouses vs. informal slaughter facilities). Therefore,
