PURPOSE: Contact transscleral neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser cyclophotocoagulation (CYC) is a treatment option for advanced glaucoma refractory to alternative treatments. This study determined the long-term efficacy and risks of contact transscleral Nd:YAG laser CYC.
DESIGN: A prospective study was performed with patients with advanced, uncontrolled glaucoma who received CYC from 1988 through 1989.

With more individuals having laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), eye banks are challenged to detect prior refractive surgery in donor tissue. We report the case of a donor who had LASIK 9 months before his death. Slitlamp biomicroscopy, corneal topography, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) were performed to evaluate the corneas. OBJECTIVE: To determine if topically administered nerve growth factor (NGF) plays a role in accelerating the recovery of corneal sensitivity after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
METHODS: A prospective double-masked study comparing the effect of topical NGF with balanced salt solution on corneal sensitivity after LASIK in rabbits. Preoperative and postoperative corneal sensitivities were assessed using an esthesiometer (Cochet-Bonnet esthesiometer).
RESULTS: Eyes that were treated with topical NGF demonstrated an earlier and faster recovery of corneal sensitivity after LASIK (P =.007).

The inevitable regression of molluscum contagiosum (MC) has been the major argument in favor of leaving the lesions to spontaneous involution. But the infection is often widespread and recurrent. Bilateral vocal fold immobility in adduction usually creates severe dyspnoea. Many surgical procedures have been established to improve the airway insufficiency in affected patients. PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of an educational seminar as an initial screening tool for patients interested in laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and to determine the incidence of and reasons for patients not being candidates for the procedure.
METHODS: A retrospective review of the medical charts of 438 consecutive patients, half of whom attended an educational seminar, and half of whom did not.
