An explainable artificial intelligence system for diagnosing Helicobacter Pylori infection under endoscopy: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Changes in gastric mucosa caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection affect the observation of early gastric cancer under endoscopy. Although previous researches reported that computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have great potential in the diagnosis of H. pylori infection, their explainability remains a challenge. OBJECTIVE: We aim to develop an explainable artificial intelligence system for diagnosing H. pylori infection (EADHI) and giving diagnostic basis under endoscopy. DESIGN: A case-control study. METHODS: We retrospectively obtained 47,239 images from 1826 pat

Early therapeutic effects of an Angiopoietin-1 mimetic peptide in middle-aged rats with vascular dementia.

BACKGROUND: Vascular Dementia (VaD) refers to dementia caused by cerebrovascular disease and/or reduced blood flow to the brain and is the second most common form of dementia after Alzheimer's disease. We previously found that in middle-aged rats subjected to a multiple microinfarction (MMI) model of VaD, treatment with AV-001, a Tie2 receptor agonist, significantly improves short-term memory, long-term memory, as well as improves preference for social novelty compared to control MMI rats. In this study, we tested the early therapeutic effects of AV-001 on inflammation and glymphatic function …

[Visuospatial context processing in untreated schizophrenic patients and relation to disorganization syndrome].

AIM: Previous studies on schizophrenia have suggested that context-processing disturbances were one of the core cognitive deficits present in schizophrenia. Schizophrenic patients have a failure either of inhibition strategy and maintenance of visuospatial information (25) in condition of contextual interference. In the present study, we explored the performances of untreated schizophrenic patients with 2 tasks exploring detection and long term retention of complex visual features and field dependence-independence tasks were selected. These abilities involve temporary maintenance of visuospati

AHAT-Fin: an adaptive hybrid attention and market-state-aware framework for financial time-series forecasting.

Accurate financial time-series forecasting is essential for quantitative investment. However, existing methods often perform inadequately when handling the complex dynamics of financial data, including non-stationarity, volatility clustering, and market regime transitions. These characteristics can adversely affect both forecasting accuracy and the quality of investment decisions. To address these challenges, this study develops AHAT-Fin, an improved Transformer-based forecasting framework that integrates adaptive hybrid attention with market state perception. AHAT-Fin integrates dual-path ada

Spatially Decoupled Piezoelectric Hydrogel with Trauma-Driven Migration of Engineered Platelets for Divergent Mitochondrial Fate Programming in Postoperative Cancer Therapy.

Postoperative recurrence and metastasis remain major obstacles in solid tumor therapy because surgical intervention creates a spatially conflicting microenvironment. Here, a spatially decoupled piezoelectric hydrogel (BP@Gel) was developed to enable spatially divergent mitochondrial fate programming across the tumor-surgical-margin interface. Engineered platelets (BPs) were constructed by integrating barium titanate (BTO) piezoelectric nanoparticles with native platelets to couple piezocatalytic activity with trauma-responsive migration. BPs were subsequently embedded within a catechol-modifie

Mechanisms of Exercise Training in Ameliorating Cognitive Function in Patients With Depression: A Narrative Review of Molecular Targets and Clinical Prescriptions.

Depression is frequently accompanied by core cognitive impairments, notably in executive function and memory. Although the ameliorative effects of exercise training have been widely corroborated, the evidence regarding its underlying mechanisms remains fragmented. To provide a comprehensive and integrated view, this review proposes a testable, cross-scale "peripheral-central-behavioral" hypothetical mechanistic model to explain the effects of exercise on cognition. The core theoretical contribution of this study lies in explicitly postulating a "molecule-structure-function" cross-level mediati

Local macrophage dynamics-inspired engineering of time-programmed nano-vaccine scaffold for postoperative cancer immunotherapy.

The spatiotemporal dynamics of macrophages during non-cancer wound healing have been extensively studied; however, the dynamics of tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs) in the local tumour microenvironment (TME) after tumour resection have received little attention. This study shows that after tumour resection in mice, the inflammatory phase dominated by M1-like TAMs at the wound only lasted for approximately 2 d, which is much shorter than the desired time, i.e., 7-10 d, for the body to establish effective anti-tumour immunity. Moreover, the antigen cross-presentation of M2-like TAMs does not

Multi-modal Features Analysis and Performance Assessment for Endovascular Surgery Skills.

PURPOSE: Interventional skill and assessment are essential for vascular interventionalists prior to performing clinical procedures. However, traditional surgical assessments often fail to deliver objective and accurate results. To address these issues, our study proposes a simulator and an analytical framework for evaluating endovascular procedural performance. METHODS: A custom interventional operation simulator included an in vitro silicone phantom, mock circulation loop, visual module, force-sensing module, and custom software for kinematic and force data post-processing. Luteolin rescues high-fat diet-induced hippocampal mitochondrial oxidative stress and cognitive decline by regulating gut microbiota-kynurenine-aryl hydrocarbon receptor axis.

High-fat diet (HFD)-induced gut dysbiosis precipitates hippocampal mitochondrial oxidative stress, a pivotal driver of synaptic failure and cognitive decline. However, the molecular conduits linking intestinal microbial shifts to cerebral redox imbalance remain poorly defined, limiting therapeutic strategies. Here, we show that luteolin attenuates HFD-induced cognitive impairment in association with modulation of the gut microbiota-kynurenine (Kyn)-aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) axis and improved mitochondrial redox homeostasis. Luteolin treatment ameliorated HFD-induced memory deficits and m

Attention-based Deep Feature Fusion for Automated Dysarthria Severity Classification: A Speech-based Computational Functional Marker Relevant to Neurovascular and Neurodegenerative Conditions.

INTRODUCTION: Dysarthria is a neuromotor disorder that occurs as a clinical manifestation of neurovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, and lateral sclerosis. These conditions disrupt neuronal and vascular pathways involved in motor speech control, leading to reduced speech intelligibility and communication barriers between dysarthric speakers and the public. METHODS: Deep Learning (DL)-based approaches are investigated for automated classification of dysarthria severity. Multiple methodologies are experimented with to identify

Smartphone-Based Brunnstrom Stage Classification of Hemiparetic Gait via Skeleton-Attention-LSTM-Inception Network.

OBJECTIVE: The accurate assessment of hemiparetic gait after stroke was essential for understanding the extent of motor impairment and for guiding rehabilitation efforts. In this study, a kinematic based deep learning classifier was proposed to eliminate inter-rater variability in lower-limb Brunnstrom Recovery Stage (BRS) assessment and enable quantitative longitudinal tracking of post-stroke motor recovery. METHODS: Forty healthy adults and fifty-one hemiparetic stroke patients (BRS III-VI) were recruited, and video recorded kinematic data were collected during their standardized walking ta

Evidence of visual learning and wavelength differential responses in three podocopids (Crustacea: Ostracoda).

BACKGROUND: Ostracods are small bivalved crustaceans that inhabit a wide range of aquatic environments, from fully marine to brackish and freshwater systems. All non-marine species belong to the order Podocopida. The sensory biology and behavioral capacities of ostracods remain poorly understood, even though these traits play pivotal roles in habitat exploration, food searching, mate recognition, and predator avoidance. In particular, studies addressing vision and learning ability are still scarce. Although visual structures in ostracods are often reduced or simplified, they exhibit considerab

Motherhood's sentinels: Pregnancy induces tissue-resident memory T cells to curb breast cancer growth.

Women who carry a pregnancy to term have long been known to have a reduced lifetime risk of breast cancer, yet the mechanisms underlying this protection remain poorly understood. While parity-induced differentiation and hormonal remodeling of mammary epithelium have been considered primary drivers of breast cancer protection, the contribution of immune adaptation has remained largely unexplored. In a recent issue of Nature Immunology, Hussain and colleagues identify pregnancy-induced tissue-resident memory-like (TRM-like) CD8⁺ T cells as key mediators of parity-associated breast cancer protect

Probabilistic deep learning framework for dynamic carbon emission accounting of electric buses under grid uncertainty.

The electrification of public transit has emerged as a pivotal pathway for deep urban decarbonization. However, existing carbon accounting methods predominantly rely on static grid emission factors and deterministic energy models, often overlooking spatiotemporal variability and uncertainty propagation. To address this limitation, this study establishes a dynamic, uncertainty-aware framework for the carbon accounting of electric bus systems. A hybrid deep learning architecture integrating Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCN), Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) networks, and an Atte

An engineered oncolytic parapoxvirus induces immunogenic tumor cell death and displays antitumor efficacy by enhancing T cell responses.

Oncolytic viruses (OVs) is a class of promising cancer biotherapeutics by selectively lysing tumor cells and stimulating antitumor immunity. However, most OV-based clinical efficacy were often restricted by rapid viral clearance mediated by pre-existing neutralizing antibodies and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). These barriers particularly limit the efficient activation of T cell-mediated immune responses, thereby compromising durable systemic antitumor effects. Leveraging the distinctive advantage that oncolytic parapoxvirus ovis (ORFV) does not induce neutralizing antibodies

Rasmussen's encephalitis as a self-perpetuating neuroinflammation-network remodeling loop: A mechanistic framework for chronic disease progression.

Rasmussen's encephalitis (RE) is a rare and devastating immune-mediated epileptic encephalopathy characterized by drug-resistant seizures, progressive hemispheric atrophy, and irreversible neurological decline. Although T-cell-driven neuroinflammation and microglial activation are recognized pathological hallmarks, current models remain insufficient to explain the relentless chronic progression and the limited long-term efficacy of immunotherapies. Here, we propose an integrative neuroinflammation-network remodeling feedback framework to conceptualize RE as a self-sustaining immune-network dis

Development of autoencoder-guided attention-LSTM models for predicting nocturnal hypoglycemia risk in Type 1 Diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: Nocturnal hypoglycemia (NH) is a major, often undetected risk for individuals with Type 1 Diabetes (T1DM). Current prediction models lack sufficient lead time for proactive, pre-sleep interventions. This study develops a novel, interpretable deep learning approach for predicting NH events up to 12 hours in advance. METHODS: We propose a hybrid model that infuses physiological knowledge (simulated glucose absorption, insulin kinetics, and subcellular insulin signaling) into an attention-based Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network. An Autoencoder-based Attention Weight Mapping (A2WM)

What Do Generative Models Learn About Adaptive Immune Receptor Repertoires? A Benchmark Study.

Generative models are increasingly used to model adaptive immune receptor repertoire (AIRR) sequence distributions, promising to decode the sequence diversity shaping immune responses and accelerate the design of therapeutic antibodies and T-cell receptors. Yet it remains unclear whether these models produce biologically meaningful outputs or merely capture surface-level sequence statistics while missing features driven by receptor generation and selection. Rigorous evaluation is needed, but the field lacks established standards, as existing machine learning metrics do not all translate direct

Sucralose Induces Neurobehavioral Alterations and Exacerbates Alzheimer's Disease-Like Phenotypes in Zebrafish Models.

Artificial sweeteners are widely consumed, yet their potential neurotoxic effects remain poorly understood. Using sucralose (SUC) as a model compound, this study develops an approach to rapidly screen the neurotoxicity of artificial sweeteners and explore their potential associations with neurodegenerative-like processes, especially Alzheimer's disease (AD)-like phenotypes. SUC is minimally absorbed and metabolized by mammals, leading to its widespread presence in the environment. Here, we integrate high-throughput behavioral phenotyping in larval zebrafish with targeted analyses in adult and

Propranolol reinstates mitochondrial dynamics and synaptic memory pathways through CaMKII/CREB-BDNF/ PKMζ cascades in an AD-like rat model.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a major neurodegenerative disorder characterized by amyloid-β (Aβ) accumulation, neurofibrillary tangles, and progressive cognitive decline. Despite significant advances in understanding its pathophysiology, current therapeutic options provide limited symptomatic relief. The present study investigated the nootropic and anti-amnesic effects of propranolol (PRO) in a scopolamine (SCP)-induced AD-like rat model. METHODS: Wistar rats received PRO (10, 30, or 50 mg/kg, p.o.) or donepezil (DPZ; 1 mg/kg) for 17 days. Cognitive deficits were induced by SCP (1 m
