Seizures as a marker of severe multi-organ involvement in neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus: a diagnostic risk stratification study.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify independent predictors of seizure occurrence in patients with neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE), develop a diagnostic model, and evaluate whether seizures are associated with adverse renal outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective cohort of 169 patients with NPSLE from Xiangya Hospital was analyzed. Among 70 pre-specified clinical, laboratory, and imaging variables, 20 variables associated with seizure occurrence (p < 0.05 in univariable logistic regression) were retained after multicollinearity screening (VIF < 5.0). Multivariable logistic

Generalization over accuracy: A cross-dataset, explainable, and federated learning framework for Parkinson's disease detection.

OBJECTIVE: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder for which early screening remains challenging. Although voice-based machine learning approaches have shown promise as non-invasive screening tools, most existing studies rely on single-dataset evaluations, random data splits, and accuracy-centric metrics, raising concerns about dataset bias, subject leakage, and limited real-world generalizability. This study aims to develop a generalization-aware, explainable, and privacy-preserving framework for PD detection using voice data. METHODS: Three heterogeneous PD voic

Comparative efficacy and safety of low-power versus high-power holmium laser enucleation of the prostate for benign prostatic hyperplasia: an updated meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is the gold-standard surgical treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia, irrespective of the prostate size. However, the optimal laser power setting remains uncertain. High-power systems (80-100 W) are commonly used in clinical practice, while emerging evidence suggests that low-power settings (24-50 W) may offer comparable efficacy with potential functional and safety advantages. OBJECTIVE: To compare the perioperative, functional, and safety outcomes of low-power versus high-power HoLEP based on randomized controlled trials. ME

Vision dominates sound in mediating classic cue-induced microsaccadic eye movement modulations in rhesus macaque monkeys.

Visual onsets in the environment cause a short-latency reduction in saccade generation likelihood. Concomitant with that, the metrics of the saccades that do happen near the time of saccadic inhibition reflect the landscape of stimulus-driven neural responses in topographically organized brain maps. Although certain aspects of saccadic inhibition have already been explored from a neurophysiological perspective, several questions remain, including which sensory-motor pathways propagate visual input information to the final oculomotor control circuitry with such short latencies. Here, motivated

Creating The Canadian Emergency Department Research Network (CEDRN): a new era for emergency medicine research.

PURPOSE: Emergency physicians care for diverse patients with undifferentiated and evolving conditions and often make clinical decisions with limited scientific evidence. Administrative barriers to effective pan-Canadian data collection from Emergency Departments (EDs) limit our ability to generate evidence in a timely manner, particularly in times of crisis. Informed by our prior COVID-19 collaboration ( https://ccedrrn.ca ), we created the Canadian ED Research Network (CEDRN, https://cedrn.ca ) to address these barriers. Our objective is to describe the Canadian ED Research Network's approach

Joint Control of Inflammation, Cholesterol, and Lipoprotein(a) With Incident Cardiovascular Events in People With Type 2 Diabetes.

SIGNIFICANCE: Fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS) utilizes molecular contrast agents to highlight critical structures or pathological tissues in real time. The premise of FGS is to enable precise surgical decision-making through accurate visualization and quantitative assessment of fluorophore distribution. However, strong effects of diffusion and absorption of fluorescent light in tissue confound fluorescence images, preventing accurate quantitative assessment of the concentration and distribution of fluorescent markers. These optical artifacts may lead to misinterpretation of tissue boundaries
