Cost-effectiveness of psychological treatment and support interventions for people living with HIV/AIDS: state of the evidence and policy considerations.

BACKGROUND: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has significantly improved the survival and quality of life of people living with HIV (PLHIV). However, many still face persistent physical, emotional, and social challenges. Integrating psychological treatments into HIV care has demonstrated potential for enhancing mental health, improving treatment adherence, and achieving better clinical outcomes. While the effectiveness of these interventions is well-documented, evidence on their cost-effectiveness remains limited and lacks systematic synthesis. This study addresses this gap by evaluating the curren

Supporting people with aphasia to 'settle into a new way to be': speech and language therapists' views on providing psychosocial support.

BACKGROUND: People with aphasia are at risk of becoming depressed and isolated. Online surveys have found that the majority of speech and language therapists (SLTs) lack confidence in addressing the psychological needs of people with aphasia. AIMS: To explore how SLTs conceptualize the scope of their role; barriers and facilitators to SLTs addressing psychosocial needs; and SLTs' experiences of specialist training and support, and working with mental health professionals (MHPs). METHODS & PROCEDURES: Focus groups were conducted in stroke healthcare settings. Purposive sampling was used when

Functional MRI of sustained attention in bipolar mania.

We examined sustained attention deficits in bipolar disorder and associated changes in brain activation assessed by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). We hypothesized that relative to healthy participants, those with mania or mixed mania would (1) exhibit incremental decrements in sustained attention over time, (2) overactivate brain regions required for emotional processing and (3) progressively underactivate attentional regions of prefrontal cortex. Fifty participants with manic/mixed bipolar disorder (BP group) and 34 healthy comparison subjects (HC group) received an fMRI scan w

Does Knowing More Relate to More Anxiety? Psychological Factors Associated With Anxiety About Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields and the Role of Information Provision in Risk Communication.

As radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs) become increasingly embedded in everyday life, understanding public responses to RF-EMFs and developing effective risk communication strategies are essential. In this study, we examined the psychological factors associated with anxiety concerning the use of technologies that rely on RF-EMFs and the effects of information provision as a form of risk communication. In the baseline analysis, multilevel modeling of anxiety across six common RF-EMF sources revealed that both subjective exposure perceptions and confidence in those perceptions were i

Letter to the Editor regarding "Social media use and roles of self-objectification, self-compassion and body image concerns: a systematic review".

The systematic review by Sarda et al. synthesizes relationships among social media use, self-objectification, self-compassion, and body image concerns while evaluating evidence relevant to the revised objectification theory model proposed by Wollast and colleagues. This letter extends the authors' call for more rigorous examination of social media use by arguing for greater specificity in conceptualizing digitally mediated appearance experiences. Rather than treating social media as a single exposure or relying on a broad passive/active distinction, we propose examining configurations of conte

Early maladaptive schemas, emotion regulation, coping with stress, quality of life, and psychological symptoms in psoriasis disease.

This study examined relationships between Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS), emotion regulation, coping styles, and psoriasis outcomes in Istanbul, Turkey. Participants included 100 psoriasis patients (ages 25-45) and 107 healthy controls. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Psoriasis patients scored significantly higher on six schemas: Emotional Deprivation, Approval Seeking, Pessimism, Self-Sacrifice, Punitiveness, and Unrelenting Standards (Cohen's d = 0.42-0.89). They also demonstrated greater emotion regulation difficulties and reduced adaptive coping. Mediation analyses

How Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) reshapes students' creativity in higher education: A chain path modeling Study from "Exploration-Exploitation" to "Co-Creation-Reflection".

With the widespread integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) into higher education, its relationship with students' creativity has become a growing focus of scholarly inquiry. Drawing on data from 424 survey responses and in-depth interviews with eight students, this study constructs and examines a chain path model of Exploration-Exploitation-Co-Creation-Reflection to investigate how GAI-assisted learning processes are associated with students' creativity. Quantitative analyses indicate that exploratory and exploitative behaviors are positively associated with creativity, and th

Attaining decent work among Chinese rural migrants: Exploring the roles of psychological ownership and proactive personality within the psychology of working theory.

Testing an adapted psychology of working theory (PWT) model (PWT; Duffy et al., 2016), this study examined how and when contextual constraints affect the ability of Chinese rural migrant workers () to attain decent work. Surveying a sample of 510 employed Chinese rural migrants at two time points, this study revealed that economic constraints and daily discrimination were indirectly related to attaining decent work through the mediating factors of work volition and psychological ownership over work. In addition, proactive personality moderated the relationships between daily discrimination and

Psychological Distress and Behavioral Vigilance in Response to Minority Stress and Threat among Members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Stigmatization, hostility, and violence towards the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community have increased sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important to conduct research to promote understanding of the effects of such stigmatization on the AAPI community. Accordingly, the present study used a combined minority stress and integrated threat framework to examine whether factors related to AAPI identity would moderate the relationship between stigmatization/threat associated with AAPI identity and increased psychological distress and behavioral vigilance. AAPI individuals w

Investigating influential factors and mechanisms of surgical resident well-being using social network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Burnout and depression in General Surgery residents affect patient care and drive attrition. Few impactful interventions exist, in part because little is known about influential drivers and mechanistic relationships. METHODS: Residents from 16 general surgery programs completed published well-being scales in January 2021. Social network analysis demonstrated influential relationships between factors, and path analysis revealed drivers of burnout and depression. RESULTS: 300 residents completed the survey (34% response rate). Workplace demand and mindfulness influenced depressive

Organizational Culture as a Determinant of Outcome in Teams: Implications for the Pediatric Cardiac Specialist.

Although enormous effort has focussed on how to build an effective culture in the business community, relatively little effort has addressed how to achieve this in the hospital environment, specifically related to the field of congenital heart disease teams. The examination of culture in pediatric cardiac care is particularly important for several key reasons: first, it represents high-stakes medicine, second, there are multiple stakeholders requiring collaboration between cardiologists, surgeons, anaesthesiologists, perfusionists, nursing staff, and allied health care professionals, and final

[Research progress of sexual dysfunction following rectal cancer surgery].

Sexual dysfunction with the incidence of 5%-90% is a common postoperative complication of rectal cancer and the ratio of men and women is similar. Sexual function is innervated by the abdominal-pelvic autonomic nerve. Different sexual dysfunctions can be caused by different parts and degrees of injury in autonomic nerve during operations of rectal cancer. With the development of pelvic autonomic nerves preservation in rectal cancer radical resection, postoperative sexual function can be protected. There may be many factors increasing the incidence of postoperative sexual dysfunction in rectal

Lactobacillus-Based Probiotics Reduce the Adverse Effects of Stress in Rodents: A Meta-analysis.

Lactobacillus species play a critical role in the bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain. Consequently, they have the potential to aid in the treatment of psychological disorders. The impact of Lactobacillus supplementation on the stress responses triggering psychological disorders has not been systematically reviewed. Therefore, the aim of this meta-analysis is to summarize the body of research assessing the effects of Lactobacillus-based probiotics in rodents that underwent an experimental stress treatment or not. The duration of immobility in a Forced Swim Test (FST) was

Three Central Dimensions of Sexual Recidivism Risk: Understanding the Latent Constructs of Static-99R and Static-2002R.

The most commonly used risk assessment tools for predicting sexual violence focus almost exclusively on static, historical factors. Consequently, they are assumed to be unable to directly inform the selection of treatment targets, or evaluate change. However, researchers using latent variable models have identified three dimensions in static actuarial scales for sexual offenders: Sexual Criminality, General Criminality, and a third dimension centered on young age and aggression to strangers. In the current study, we examined the convergent and predictive validity of these dimensions, using psy

[Functional and motility gastrointestinal disorders].

We summarize and discuss the studies presented at the congress of the American Association of Gastroenterology (Digestive Disease Week) that, in our opinion, are of greatest interest. Both clinically and physiopathologically, functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders are highly complex. A single cause is unlikely to explain symptoms as heterogeneous as those of functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Therefore, it is easier (and more useful) to try to understand functional GI disorders using a bio-psycho-social model. Moreover, data supporting the combined importance of genet
