Spontaneous dissecting aneurysm of the coronary artery (SDACA) not associated with aortic aneurysm or trauma is a very rare cause of myocardial ischemia. It has a higher prevalence in otherwise healthy women, especially in the peri- and postpartum period. In 80-90% of cases the diagnosis of SDACA is confirmed at autopsy, as the majority of patients present with acute myocardial infarction or sudden death. OBJECTIVE: To find the preventive method of restenosis after transluminal angioplasty (TA).
METHODS: Sixty rabbit iliac arteries of 30 rabbits were divided randomly into three groups, group A, B and C, 20 in each. After experimental atherosclerotic stenosis and TA performing, ordinary forage plus 2 g of hirudo powder was fed to the group A every day, to the group B, 2 g Salvia miltiorrhiza powder was added and to the group C, ordinary forage only. Chronic exposure of cultured piglet neonatal coronary arterial smooth muscle cells to low concentrations of ethanol (46-115 mg/dl) for 7 days resulted in concentration-dependent elevation in intracellular free Ca2+ ions ([Ca2+i); these rises (22-56%) in [Ca2+]i were not reversible upon short-term exposure to normal, Ca2(+)-containing physiological salt solution. These findings help to provide a rational basis for why ethanol can result in the well-known fetal alcohol syndrome, including cardiac defects and in-utero death.

Collagens provide the tensile strength of the aortic wall. Variations in collagen structure are recognised in Ehlers Danlos syndrome type IV and could also be associated with a predisposition to aortic aneurysm. The frequency of some minor genetic variants of type III collagen, present in the normal population, can be detected by restriction enzyme digestion of genomic DNA from peripheral leucocytes. The frequency of a minor collagen type III allele demonstrated with the restriction enzyme Ava II was compared in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (n = 70) and aortoiliac stenosis (n = 47).
