This paper describes a technique for excision of a squamous cell carcinoma of the upper eyelid and subsequent functional reconstruction of the lid in a patient with xeroderma pigmentosum. By applying the modified technique of temporalis muscle flap, the upper eyelid was reconstructed by a skin graft from non-sun-exposed skin and a muscle pocket of the temporalis muscle. For the mucosal layer of the upper eyelid, a transplant of oral mucosa was used. An effective functional and aesthetic outcome has been achieved by this technique.

Author present four cases of mixed laryngocoele. Planocellular carcinoma of larynx was recognized at one of the four patients after 17 months from the operation of laryngocoele. A rare case of bilateral laryngocoele described by the authors was found in a woman, who was operated on in 1981 because of the internal laryngocoele at the left side. She was reoperated in 1995 a mixed laryngocoele at the right side was removed.

We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma of ureter. A 60-year-old female was referred to our hospital for the right hydronephrosis and the left atrophic kidney. She had been suffering from severe renal dysfunction and had hemodialysis a month earlier. Retrograde and antegrade right pyelography revealed complete obstruction of the right lower ureter about 2 cm in length. Limbal squamous cell carcinoma is uncommon worldwide. Its early stages of presentation may look like the commoner limbal mass, pterygium. We report a case of invasive squamous cell carcinoma which was initially diagnosed as inflamed pterygium. A high index of suspicion is required to prevent delay in the diagnosis of an invasive condition that can destroy the eye completely. Treatment modalities are reviewed.

A 46-year-old patient suffering from Hallopeau-Siemens type epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica presented a large squamous-cell carcinoma of the left hand. No metastases were observed. The tumour was resected and the phalanxes were amputated. The wound was covered with autologous skin grafts. Squamous-cell carcinoma is extremely aggressive in these patients and surgery is the only effective therapy. This life-threatening complication should always be kept in mind and a biopsy taken of every chronic, non-healing ulceration and of each atypical lesion.

The use of abrasive cytology as a screening procedure in the diagnosis of early cancer of the oesophagus among asymptomatic rural Ciskeians was assessed. An inexpensive, locally manufactured brush biopsy capsule was used to obtain cytological material from 1,336 subjects. The technique gives a high yield, has a high predictive value and identifies a high prevalence of sufferers at the detectable preclinical phase of the disease.

Squamous cell carcinoma of the soft palate is an infrequently seen tumor of the oral cavity. The use of the KTP laser in the treatment of a 52-year-old man with a T2N0M0 soft palate carcinoma is reported. The natural history and treatment of this entity is reviewed. The application of tumor thickness as related to therapy of the neck and prognosis is commented on. Use of the KTP laser for resection of oral cavity lesions is felt to be a technological improvement beneficial to both patients and practitioners.

The expression of cytokeratin (CK) subclasses was immunohistologically investigated in normal laryngeal epithelia by the ABC technique using monospecific monoclonal antibodies. There are two types of epithelium in the larynx; squamous epithelium of the glottis and ciliated epithelium mainly of the supraglottis. A difference in expression pattern was observed between these two epithelia only in 3 CKs, specifically CK-8, CK-13 and CK-19. Intracranial epidermoid cysts are uncommon benign tumors of developmental origin; malignant transformation is extremely rare. We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising in a chiasmatic-parasellar epidermoid cyst. Malignant change had not been suspected until histological examination revealed it.

In this article, vulvar anatomy and histology are reviewed, and nonneoplastic and neoplastic epithelial disorders are presented. Included are lichen sclerosus, squamous cell hyperplasia, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, vulvar Paget's disease, and squamous cell carcinoma. Actinomycosis of the larynx is rare. Only seven cases have been reported in the literature. We report a case of actinomycosis of the larynx in a 63-year-old male following radiation therapy for laryngeal carcinoma. The diagnosis of actinomycosis can be made with a biopsy. It is important to distinguish infection from radionecrosis and recurrent carcinoma. Treatment consists of airway control and a prolonged course of antibiotics.

A 33 year old uncircumcised Caucasian male who had a 7 year history of intermittent erosive balanitis and herpes, presented with an 18 month history of progressively worsening penile ulceration not responding to the usual medication.
