Educational and personal influences and barriers to practicing rural pharmacy.

BACKGROUND: Rural pharmacists are a critical part of the pharmacy workforce, yet qualified applicants are often difficult to recruit. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the personal and educational factors associated with a pharmacist's choice to practice in a rural community in the United States. METHODS: This study utilized an online, anonymous survey sent to pharmacists practicing in rural areas. The questions focused on personal, community, and educational influences on rural pharmacy practice. The sample was divided based on whether individuals reported they were ra

Intraoperatively Tailorable Vascular Bioelectronics for Personalized Hemodynamic Monitoring.

Intraoperative monitoring of vascular and hemodynamic status is critical for preventing postoperative complications. However, interpatient variability in vessel geometry renders rigid or pre-shaped implantable sensors inadequate for conformal adaptation to the surgical site. Here, we present an intraoperatively customizable platform for the rapid fabrication of three-dimensional helical vascular electronics via a controlled mechanical peeling strategy. By modulating peeling parameters, helical structures with tunable diameters and pitches are generated, enabling suture-free wrapping around art

Balancing Personal and Professional Obligations Across the Transitions of Care.

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES: To illustrate a critical paradox: health care professionals, and especially case managers, possess knowledge of regulatory requirements, care processes, and available resources that enable them to navigate complex systems more effectively than patients and families without this expertise. Yet, patients should not need a health care insider, professional credentials, or personal relationships within a health system to receive comprehensive, person-centered case management. PRIMARY PRACTICE SETTINGS: Across all settings. FINDINGS/CONCLUSIONS: The lived experience illustrate

The Effect of Stress on Working Memory in Persons with Parkinson's Disease.

BACKGROUND: In addition to motor symptoms, persons with Parkinson's disease (PD) experience several non-motor symptoms with challenges in working memory being particularly common. These cognitive challenges may worsen under stress. The purpose of this pilot study was to examine how physical stress affects working memory in persons with PD. METHODS: Eight individuals with PD and 11 healthy older adults (HOAs) completed digit span forward and backward tasks following a socially evaluated cold pressor stressor and a control condition. RESULTS: Under non-stressful conditions, persons with PD had

Personal Insurance: How to Gain Protection Against the Unexpected.

Insurance is essential for managing risk and is a key part of a good financial plan, and insurance needs evolve as radiologists progress through their careers. This review discusses personal insurance for radiologists, organized around the products most critical to long-term financial security: disability insurance, life insurance, and umbrella liability coverage, followed by an overview of property insurance and emerging exposures such as cyber and identity theft. The review also addresses when specific insurance products become less necessary as assets accumulate over a career. The goal is t

Artificial intelligence and personal protective equipment: a scoping review.

Objectives. Smart technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), have significant potential to enhance occupational health and safety programs. This scoping review examines AI applications in personal protective equipment (PPE). Methods. Following Arksey and O'Malley's framework, PubMed, Web of Science and Google Scholar were systematically searched for peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2024. Two independent reviewers screened 277 records, and 47 studies met the inclusion criteria. Results. AI applications in PPE were categorized int
