Conductometric determination on microfluidic thread-based analytical device for near-real-time ammonia detection in exhaled breath.

This work aims to develop a microfluidic cotton thread-based analytical device (μCTAD) as a membraneless micro scrubber for gas sampling and in-situ conductometric detection of ammonia. The μCTAD cell comprises treated cotton, without further modification, that contacts two stainless-steel rod electrodes inside the gas sampling cavity. The device serves as a micro-gas collector, utilizing 50 mmol L-1 boric acid as an absorbing solution for the detection of NH3. The analyte gas was passed through the μCTAD cell, where it cames into direct contact with a liquid film flowing over the cell and was

High-Throughput Multi-Capillary Electrophoresis.

The potential of multi-capillary electrophoresis (CE) for high-throughput analysis of legacy CE applications was investigated by optimisation of the separation of six pharmaceutical compounds on a single-capillary instrument, followed by transference of the method to an eight-capillary BioPhase 8800 system from SCIEX. Multi-CE had superior performance, allowing construction of calibration curves in a single run, and a five-fold reduction of run time per sample, improved linearity, accuracy and limits of detection. Method transfer from the single-capillary system required minor instrumental par

Conformal reliability assessment of PPG-based ICU arrhythmia classification under class imbalance and patient heterogeneity.

Objective.Deep learning models for photoplethysmography (PPG)-based arrhythmia detection in intensive care are often evaluated by average accuracy, while conformal prediction (CP) is used to add marginal coverage guarantees. We ask whether aggregate accuracy and marginal conformal coverage are sufficient evidence of clinical reliability under intensive care unit (ICU) class imbalance and patient heterogeneity.Approach.Using the MIMIC-III-Ext-PPG benchmark with 826 critically ill patients and over 1.1 million 30 s PPG segments, we conduct a conformal reliability audit of PPG-only arrhythmia cla

Biosensing technologies for cannabinoid monitoring in pain management: Current methods, clinical needs, and translational challenges.

Cannabinoids such as Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are increasingly explored for chronic and neuropathic pain management. Still, their clinical use remains limited by variable formulations, uncertain therapeutic ranges, and insufficient concentration-response evidence. Although many cannabinoid detection platforms have been reported, few reviews connect biosensor performance with the clinical requirements of pain management monitoring and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). This review summarizes current cannabinoid detection strategies, including conventional analytical m

Comparison of clip and needle electrodes for multifrequency bioimpedance analysis in anesthetized dogs.

Multifrequency bioimpedance analysis provides resistance, reactance, and phase angle measurements that are used to characterize body fluid distribution and cellular electrical properties. However, studies reporting on body composition assessment using multifrequency bioimpedance analysis in dogs remain limited. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the measurement characteristics of trunk multifrequency bioimpedance analysis in dogs and assess the influence of body position and electrode type and placement. We anesthetized seven adult Beagle dogs and performed trunk multifrequency bioimpedance analy

The mouthpiece type factor: impact of filter selection on secondary electrospray ionisation high-resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HRMS) breath profiles.

Molecular breath research using secondary electrospray ionisation high-resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HRMS) commonly uses single-use mouthpieces to facilitate sampling and reduce contamination risk. Many incorporate bacterial/viral filters, but their influence on untargeted molecular breath profiles is poorly characterised. This study aimed to determine whether commercially available mouthpieces alter SESI-HRMS breath profiles, identify molecular classes affected by filtered mouthpieces, and assess whether ComBat batch correction reduces mouthpiece-related variance while preserving inter-s

Patient-reported outcomes and experience measures in the Community Pharmacy setting: Theoretical and practical framework regarding the PROMs and PREMs.

Healthcare systems are evolving toward person-centered and value-driven models, in which the patient's perspective plays a key role. Thus, patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and experience (PRE) are key elements for evaluating the impact of healthcare interventions from the patient's own perspective. Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and Patient-Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) are standardized and validated questionnaires designed to measure these variables, which could complement conventional clinical outcomes. This document describes the theoretical foundations of PROM and PREM an

Quantifying the Transmit-Power Threshold for Reliable Passive Detuning of Inductively Coupled Wireless Resonators in MRI: A Phantom Study.

This work develops and validates a practical method for quantifying the transmit-power threshold at which passive detuning of inductively coupled wireless resonators becomes reliable in MRI. All experiments were performed using phantoms. A near/far spatial signal ratio is computed from a series of gradient-echo (GRE) images acquired at different nominal flip angles. This ratio reveals ineffective detuning as a characteristic L-shaped curve whose inflection point marks the detuning threshold. The method was validated experimentally with wireless resonators incorporating different numbers of cro

Reliability of force production based on the sense of effort at different force levels.

Force production under sense of effort conditions is essential for motor control and clinical assessment; however, its reliability across different force levels remains unclear. In addition, the lack of standardized measurement methods has limited the accumulation of consistent findings. Therefore, establishing reliable measurement conditions is necessary for both research and practical applications. This study examined the test-retest reliability of grip-force production based on the sense of effort at three force levels: 25%, 50%, and 75% of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). Thirty-three

Readability, quality, and reliability of AI-generated ınformation on myofascial pain syndrome: A comparative analysis of ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.

Patients seeking information about Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS), which affects a large segment of the population, are increasingly turning to AI-based chatbots as an alternative to traditional methods. However, the medical accuracy of the content offered by these digital platforms, as well as its suitability to the "grade 6 reading level" standard, which determines its comprehensibility by patients, is a critical point of uncertainty. This study aims to fill this significant gap in the literature by systematically comparing MPS content generated by different AI models using readability indic

Variability analysis of a low-cost paper dipstick nucleic acid extraction method for wastewater surveillance using gage repeatability and reproducibility.

Microbial concentration remains a key challenge in developing low-cost, point-of-use wastewater monitoring assays for pandemic preparedness, primarily due to sample heterogeneity and low pathogen load. Paper dipstick-based methods are promising for simplified and low-cost RNA capture and isolation from sub-milliliter sample volumes. However, given the manual nature of the method, variability is a major concern. To evaluate variability introduced by the method type, operator handling, and wastewater samples, we performed a multi-operator two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and 'evaluating the
