A systematic review of 3D printing of pharmaceutical drug products: Barriers and enablers.

The transition of pharmaceutical 3D printing (3DP) from centralized production to decentralized, point-of-care (POC) settings presents complex regulatory and operational challenges. This systematic review synthesizes these barriers and evaluates the adaptability of emerging governance frameworks. A PRISMA-compliant systematic search was conducted up to June 2026 across five databases. Sixty-four eligible articles underwent inductive thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns regarding regulatory, technical and practical implementation factors. Ten descriptive themes were identified. The

Multidimensional and Multidisciplinary Management of Heart Failure Patients with Frailty.

This paper discusses the considerations for multidimensional and multidisciplinary management of heart failure (HF) patients with frailty. Frailty is a multidimensional, dynamic and potentially reversible state, defined by clinical, functional, psycho-cognitive and social domains. Frailty is seldom systematically assessed in clinical practice in HF patients. Paradoxically, although the absolute benefit of HF guideline-directed medical treatment in frail HF patients seems greater, it is under-prescribed. This therapeutic gap could be related to different reasons, such as concerns about safety,

Invisible battles: the disability paradox and workplace experiences of individuals with lupus.

BACKGROUND: Individuals living with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), experience complex interplay between fatigue, mental health challenges, and workplace inclusion. SLE-related fatigue extends beyond physical exhaustion, encompassing cognitive and emotional depletion, while anxiety and depression further compound its effects. By integrating Paradox Theory and the Social Model of Disability, this research conceptualizes how competing workplace demands and structural barriers contribute to employment instability and reinforce exclusion. METHODS: A qualitative research design is employed, dr

Linking misophonia and tinnitus: Common and divergent neurobiological mechanisms.

Misophonia and tinnitus are debilitating auditory disorders that impair social functioning and mental health. This is the first review paper examining their common and divergent neurobiological underpinnings, focusing on genetic, neural, and psychological factors. Both conditions show hereditary influences, neural activity imbalances across the auditory cortex, amygdala, and anterior cingulate cortex, and heightened autonomic responses, causing significant distress and cognitive deficits. Misophonia is triggered by specific external sounds, while tinnitus involves phantom sound perception. Neu

Top Ten Tips Palliative Care Clinicians Should Know About Collaborating with Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.

Palliative care (PC) and consultation-liaison (CL) psychiatry are complementary clinical disciplines that frequently care for the same patients facing serious illness complicated by psychiatric symptoms, psychological distress, neuropsychiatric syndromes, and high-stakes medical decisions. Yet structured collaboration between the two fields remains variable, and PC clinicians may be uncertain when and how to engage CL psychiatry colleagues. In this article, an interdisciplinary group of PC and CL psychiatry clinicians offers 10 practical tips to strengthen collaboration across inpatient and ou

A comprehensive and standardized pipeline for automated profiling of higher cognition in mice.

In rodent behavior research, observer-independent methods, such as the IntelliCage, enhance data collection in a social, and thus stress-reduced, environment. The IntelliCage system allows experimenters to create cognitive challenges for mice motivated by rewards. Given the extensive and diverse data from IntelliCage, there is a high demand for automated analysis. Here, we introduce IntelliR, a free and standardized pipeline for analyzing IntelliCage data, including a cognition index for performance comparison across challenges. IntelliR supports the automatic analysis of three challenges that

Lifestyle medicine in Parkinson's disease.

Lifestyle medicine is an evolving concept integrating preventive and therapeutic approaches related to physical activity, nutrition, sleep, stress management, social interaction, and cessation of substance abuse aiming to optimize health outcomes. Lifestyle consultation plays an essential and constantly growing role in clinical settings. In this review, we highlight the usability of lifestyle medicine as a framework for both well-established and novel roles of environmental triggers and non-pharmacological prevention and treatment in Parkinson's Disease (PD). We summarize the current understan

Early Life Stress Effects on Children's Biology, Behavior, and Health: Evidence, Mediators, Moderators, and Solutions.

This review synthesizes and critiques research on early life adversity and stress effects on multidomain health outcomes in child samples to fill a gap in the literature that has largely focused on adults. Prioritizing evidence from meta-analytic and systematic reviews as well as findings from (quasi-)experimental or large prospective longitudinal studies, we integrate interdisciplinary findings to characterize patterns of evidence for stress associations with child outcomes, including mental, physical, and positive health; academic, social, and justice system-related domains; and intermediary

A distinct set of brain areas process prosody-the melody of speech.

Human speech carries information beyond the words themselves: pitch, loudness, duration, and pauses-jointly referred to as 'prosody'-emphasize critical words, help group words into phrases, and convey emotional and other socially-relevant information. Using a novel fMRI paradigm, we identify a set of prosody-responsive brain areas and then richly characterize them across 8 experiments (25 experimental conditions; n=51 participants). These areas-located on the lateral temporal surface bilaterally and in the frontal lobe-respond to the presence of prosody in both meaningful and meaningless speec

From dry eye to depression: a machine learning-based framework for predicting adolescent mental health.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent depression is a major public health concern. Physical health indicators are rarely included in risk tools. We examined whether adding dry eye disease (DED) to psychosocial and behavioral factors improves prediction of depressive symptoms. METHODS: We analyzed 2,076 adolescent questionnaires (94.5% response) covering ocular health, sleep, electronic device use, social support, and demographics. Five machine-learning classifiers were trained with cross-validation and evaluated for discrimination and calibration. RESULTS: Models that included DED achieved strong discrimin

Executive function after childhood cancer: Insights from network neuroscience.

In this review, we examine the empirical literature on the cognitive late effects of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and brain tumors, with a focus on executive function and its neural underpinnings. Executive function is a critical domain, influencing survivors' educational attainment, social relationships, and overall quality of life. We first examine behavioral evidence of executive function impairments observed after cancer diagnosis and treatment. We then explore neuroscientific insights, integrating findings from volumetric analyses, functional imaging, and network-based app

Navigating the storm: Insights for emergency planning for community-dwelling older adults-A report from focus groups with older adults and informal caregivers.

Older adults often manage multiple chronic health conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes, which increases their vulnerability during emergencies. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic underscored how vulnerable older adults, especially those with multiple chronic conditions, are to social, physical, psychological, spiritual, and economic hardships in times of crisis since preparing for and responding to disaster events can be particularly challenging for these individuals. This qualitative study examined emergency experiences and preparedness of 37 older adults and informal caregivers
