The development of glossopharyngeal nerve branches was studied by an immunohistochemical technique which stains the whole nervous system in situ. Prior to the formation of the ramus (r.) lingualis IX, pre- and post-trematic branches developed just beneath the pharyngeal ectoderm. This mode of development resembled that of the chorda tympani. The post-trematic nerve seemed to be a precursor of the r. lingual. IX. In addition to the r. pharyngeus dorsalis IX, another branch, r. pharyng. posterior IX, appeared. Authors have studied the effect of Gordox-therapy on haemostasis after open heart surgery in a prospective clinical trial. During 1984, junctional and compound naevi were registered significantly more often during the summer half-year (May-October) than the total number of naevi, which showed no seasonal variation. A seroepidemiologic study on American trypanosomiasis was performed to a group of Nicaraguan students in Isle of the Youth Special Municipality, during February 1987, using indirect hemagglutination and indirect immunoflorescence techniques. The prevalence obtained with both tests and the percentage of the most frequent titer of indirect immunofluorescence are pointed out. Transmission of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pose substantial risks to institutional healthcare employees working with blood. While the risk of contracting hepatitis B in the hospital setting is much greater than the probability of acquiring HIV, the cost of treating the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)--if it develops--is much greater in both dollars and human suffering. In addition to the risks posed by the presence of HIV infection in the hospital increase daily. By the end of 1990, one of every 14 hospitalized patients will be an HIV carrier.

A retrospective study of 26 cases was analyzed to review the sometimes unfamiliar clinical appearance and outcome of Pott's disease. Swiss nationals (46%) were older than patients from Mediterranean or developing countries (mean age, 69 versus 29 years). The number of vertebrae initially involved was 2.2. The present study described the normal ultrastructure of the monkey pineal gland. The gland was composed of the principal pinealocytes, intramural neurons and glial cells. To analyze the CT findings of OPLL quantitatively, stenotic rate (thickness of OPLL/A-P diameter of the spinal canal) and occupying rate (area occupied by OPLL/area of spinal canal) were correlated with severity of the myelopathy. The cervical vertebrae were most frequently involved (88.9%). The shapes of OPPL on lateral plain radiography were various but there were slightly more continuous and mixed types than segmented or protrusion types in this series. When the occupying rate exceeded 20%, myelopathy tended to appear. And when the stenotic rate became over 30%, myelopathy tended to appear.
