BACKGROUND: Flexor hallucis longus tenosynovitis (FHLTS) is the inflammation of the sheath through which the flexor hallucis longus tendon (FHLT) passes. The FHLT thickness (FHLTT) is correlated with ankle pain. Thus, the FHLTT is considered a characteristic FHLTS feature. However, asymmetrical thickening of the FHLT can occur at any point. Therefore, we used the FHLT cross-sectional area (FHLTCSA) as a new morphological parameter to diagnose FHLTS.
METHODS: 26 participants in the Control group (Group 1) and 26 in the FHLTS group (Group 2) underwent magnetic resonance imaging. The FHLTCSA was

INTRODUCTION: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is among the most common knee procedures in the United States, particularly in athletes who participate in cutting and pivoting sports. While bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) autografts have long been considered the gold standard for this group, drawbacks such as anterior knee pain and difficulty kneeling have prompted interest in quadriceps tendon autografts. With a larger cross-sectional area and higher load-to-failure, the quadriceps autograft is a promising alternative. This study reported return-to-play timelines and re-rupture

BACKGROUND: Tendon tears of the pectoralis major (PM) are uncommon and can be challenging to manage. The lack of consensus on optimal repair methods for PM tendon tears prompts further investigation.
METHODS: Twenty four fresh-frozen shoulder specimens were used for this biomechanical in-vitro investigation. After simulating complete tears of the PM at its insertion, repair was performed with 3 suture anchors using a locking whipstitch technique of the PM tendon over a length of 2 (group 2), 4 (group 4), or 6 cm (group 6), 8 specimens per group. Incremental cyclic loading of the specimens was

BACKGROUND: Gluteus medius tendon tears lead to considerable functional limitations and a high level of suffering in affected patients. In cases where the symptoms are severe, surgical intervention is indicated. A range of techniques are used to repair the tendon, with the primary aim being to achieve the highest possible primary stability in order to minimise the risk of re-rupture. This biomechanical study compares two different refixation techniques in terms of their stability in an ovine model.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The gluteal tendons of sheep hips (n = 17) were meticulously prepared and…

INTRODUCTION: Acute patellar tendon injuries in children are rare but increasing due to more high-energy sports participation. These injuries often involve bony fractures, with isolated tendon avulsions being uncommon. Timely diagnosis and surgical intervention are essential to restore knee function and pre-injury activity levels.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 12-year-old male student-athlete was brought to the hospital after his right knee buckled while playing football. He exhibited significant tenderness, swelling, and an inability to actively extend the knee. Clinically, a palpable gap below the i

BACKGROUND: Complete and partial flexor tendon lacerations are challenging injuries to diagnose and manage. Imaging modalities can determine grade of laceration, and location of tendon ends preoperatively while detecting presence of adhesions, repair failure, and gap formation postoperatively. Despite these clear advantages, imaging modalities are underutilized because of issues with availability and concerns about accuracy.
METHODS: A systematic search of MEDLINE and Embase was conducted to identify papers examining the accuracy of ultrasonography (US) and MRI in preoperative and postoperati

PURPOSE: Combined anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries are common and present challenges in management. While ACL reconstruction has been established, the optimal approach for combined ACL and MCL injuries remains debatable owing to the varying severity and chronicity of MCL injuries. This study aimed to describe a novel surgical technique for chronic ACL and grade III MCL injuries and assess whether simultaneous ACL and MCL reconstruction improves chronic MCL instability.
METHODS: A total of 41 patients diagnosed with combined ACL and MCL injuries we

A 26-year-old male presented to the emergency department (ED) with a penetrating injury to his fourth digit requiring analgesia for removal of an extruding metal foreign body. An ultrasound (US)-guided flexor tendon sheath (FTS) block was performed on the volar surface of the hand near the distal palmar crease using an out-of-plane approach with in-plane longitudinal confirmation of needle placement. Anesthetic placement was verified by a "horseshoe" appearance of the anesthetic surrounding the FTS. The patient achieved complete analgesia within five-minutes following the administration of the

BACKGROUND: Flat feet change lower-extremity alignment, and they may change the load distribution on the Achilles tendon during exercise. The purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate effect of cumulative transverse strain via resistive ankle plantarflexion exercise on the Achilles tendon in individuals with flat feet.
METHODS: Fourteen individuals with flat feet and 14 age-matched individuals with normal foot posture were enrolled. Achilles tendon thickness was measured by an ultrasonography device with a linear probe at three points: 1, 2, and 3 cm proximal to the superior aspe

Achilles tendon ruptures significantly impair long-term patient function, with two-thirds of patients experiencing persistent functional deficits. Although nonsurgical treatment has gained popularity due to its perceived lower risk of complications, the specific effects of this approach on tendon healing, muscle function, and overall performance remain poorly understood. Directly comparing surgical and nonsurgical treatment options in a clinical population is challenging given the diverse nature of the patient population. Preclinical models are essential to isolate the mechanisms underlying th

BACKGROUND: Tibial tubercle fractures (TTF) are uncommon injuries, comprising <3% of proximal tibial fractures. Rarely, they occur in conjunction with patellar tendon avulsion (PTA). We aimed to compare reoperation rates and short-term postoperative outcomes in patients with TTF versus combined injuries.
METHODS: A retrospective review of patients presenting to a single tertiary pediatric hospital with a TTF who underwent open treatment and fixation of tibial tuberosity fractures was performed. Demographics, operative details, injury patterns, complications, and postoperative milestones were

Introduction Recent literature has demonstrated that the use of quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is a viable alternative to more well-established autograft options. This study evaluated trends in QT autograft utilization in primary ACLR at a single institution. Methods A retrospective review of 2,352 ACLRs from 2014 to 2022 identified 1,582 primary ACLRs using autograft, after excluding allograft (651) and revision cases (119). The cohort included 1,021 men (66%) and 526 women (34%) with an average age of 24.0 years (range, 9-66). Time seri

Reconstruction of tendon defects is a challenge for hand surgeons. Tendon autografts can be used to repair these defects but can cause donor site morbidities. Although turn-down tendon flaps were described for the reconstruction of tendon defects in the lower extremity, there is not enough knowledge regarding the upper extremity. This study investigated the outcomes of reconstruction of zone 2 extensor tendon defects with turn-down extensor tendon flap. Seven fingers of six patients with zone 2 extensor tendon defects treated with the turn-down extensor tendon flap technique were retrospective

PURPOSE: In this study, we proposed a new tendon transfer method for thumb function reconstruction to treat radial nerve injuries. We specifically focused on enhancing thumb radial abduction by transferring the palmaris longus (PL) to the extensor pollicis brevis (EPB) while preserving the first compartment.
METHODS: Eight freshly frozen cadaver specimens were used to compare our proposed technique (transferring the PL to the EPB while preserving the first compartment) with the Tsuge method (transferring the extensor pollicis longus (EPL) and fixing the abductor pollicis longus to the flexor

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have focused on the effect of the peroneus longus tendon graft on the knee; in this study, we focused on its impact on the ankle. Injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are frequently observed in sports injuries. The peroneus longus tendon graft has rapidly gained a place in the literature; however, very few studies have been conducted on the foot-ankle region stability of this tendon.
PURPOSE: To investigate the effect on this region of the peroneus longus tendon graft used in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR).

BACKGROUND: Tendon adhesions after hand surgery can severely impair motion and function. Although early mobilization is preferred, re-ruptures or complex trauma cases often require immobilization, increasing the risk of adhesion.
PURPOSE: This report presents two cases-one involving flexor pollicis longus (FPL) tendon re-rupture and another with multiple extensor tendon injuries-treated with a novel flossing intervention aimed at improving tendon gliding and soft tissue flexibility.
METHODS: In both cases, flossing therapy using a rubber compression band was introduced at 8 weeks postoperati
