Monascus kaoliang was selected after a microbial screening as a highly active and selective whole cell catalyst for the reduction of ketones. In the present paper we describe the optimum growing conditions and an interesting immobilization procedure by adsorption in polyurethane foams (PUFs). This methodology is easy to perform and the immobilized catalyst is active, stable and reusable. All synthetic pyrethroids are chiral compounds, and isomerization has been frequently observed from exposure to certain solvents. However, so far, pyrethroid isomerization caused by solvents has not been characterized at the enantiomer level. Nanoparticles of nimesulide have been synthesized in two systems of microemulsion: E170/isopropyl myristate/water/n-butanol (or isopropanol). Nanoparticles are monodisperse. The effect of organic solvents (n-propanol, isopropanol, dimethylformamide and dimethylsulfoxide) on the structure, activity and stability of thermolysin was the focus of this investigation.
