Angiomyofibroblastoma of the scrotum: A report of two cases and literature review.

Angiomyofibroblastoma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor typically found in the genital region of adult females, but its occurrence in the male scrotum is exceptionally uncommon. This report presents two cases of angiomyofibroblastoma in the male scrotum to enhance the understanding of this rare condition. In the first case, a man in his early 60s with a recent rectal cancer diagnosis was found to have a palpable right scrotal mass. Imaging suggested metastasis, but radical resection and pathological analysis confirmed angiomyofibroblastoma, with no evidence of testicular malignancy. The patie

Cutaneous lesions and other non-endocrine manifestations of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 is a rare genetic syndrome mainly caused by mutations of MEN1 gene and characterized by a co … isher's exact tests or multivariate exact logistic regression analyses. RESULTS: The prevalence of angiofibromas was significantly higher in F-MEN1 than in S-MEN1 in both the whole (p < 0.001) and index case (p = 0.003) cohorts. The prevalence of lipomas was also significantly higher in F-MEN1 than in S-MEN1 (p = 0.009) and in MEN1 mutation-positive than in M …

Treatment of pearly penile papules with CO2 laser.

BACKGROUND: Pearly penile papules are angiofibromas found on the corona and sulcus of the glans penis. While these represent a benign condition, psychological and cosmetic concerns often prompt patients to seek therapeutic removal of these lesions. Multiple therapeutic modalities have been reported; however, use of CO2 laser has proven to be the most effective to date. OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the efficacy of CO2 laser in treating pearly penile papules. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: We report the successful treatment of pearly penile papules in an African American man with CO2 laser. CON…

Tuberous sclerosis with macrodactyly.

Tuberous sclerosis with macrodactyly is a very uncommon presentation. We report a 15-year-old girl with a thick, loose hyperpigmented area on the dorsum of the left hand with macrodactyly. A skin biopsy specimen from the dorsum of the left hand revealed dense collagenization in the dermis. Radiographs showed marked irregular thickening of the cortex of the metacarpals and phalanges of the left index and middle fingers.

Angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva: case report.

Angiomyxomas are a group of relatively rare mesenchymal myxoid tumors. Three types of angiomyxomas have been identified: superficial angiomyxoma, aggressive angiomyxoma and angiomyofibroblastoma. These tumors have a predilection for occurring in the perineum of middle-aged females and are often clinically diagnosed as Bartholin's cyst. A case of a 42-year-old female with a perineal angiomyofibroblastoma mimicking a Bartholin's cyst is presented. The pathological and clinical characteristics of this tumor are discussed.

A unilateral presentation of papillary renal cell carcinoma in a pediatric patient with tuberous sclerosis complex: A rare case report.

Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a multisystem genetic disorder predominantly identified by benign hamartomas; however, it harbors a hidden risk for early-onset malignancies. We report a 15-year-old female presenting with extensive mucocutaneous hallmarks, including facial angiofibromas and Koenen's tumors. Comprehensive systemic surveillance revealed neurological tubers, subependymal giant cell astrocytoma, and pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis. Crucially, imaging identified asymptomatic right renal mass, histopathologically confirmed as papillary renal cell carcinoma following nephrectom…

Nosebleed in children. Background and techniques to stop the flow.

Nosebleed in children can result from dryness and picking of the resultant crust over the anterior part of the nasal septum, trauma to the nose, juvenile angiofibroma, or disorders of hemostatic mechanisms. In most cases it is not difficult to treat; often the primary care physician can assist a patient by giving instructions over the telephone to a parent. In the office or hospital, the usual measures are firm pressure, placement of a piece of cotton dipped in a cocaine-epinephrine solution, taking of a brief history, application of petrolatum, and taping of the nose. If bleeding persists, an…

Renal angiomyolipoma in tuberous sclerosis complex: Case series and literature review.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disease characterized by the growth of numerous noncancerous tumors in many parts of the body mainly the skin, brain, kidneys. The prevalence of the disease is estimated to be 7 - 12 in 100,000. We report the cases of two black African women diagnosed with TSC at age 25 and 54. They both had renal angiomyolipoma, facial angiofibroma and diffuse hypochromic macules. The older patient remained stable for the 11 years following her diagnosis. But, in the second patient, the disease was more severe with a giant angiomyolipoma, complicated by renal intr…

Tuberous sclerosis complex with skin lesions as the initial presentation: A case report and multidisciplinary discussion.

We reported a case of tuberous sclerosis complex with facial angiofibroma as the initial presentation and conducted a multidisciplinary discussion. The patient, a young female, was admitted to the Department of Dermatology for cosmetic purpose. After the examination, she was found to have multiple system involvement, including a large renal angiomyolipoma pressing on the liver. She never had any subjective symptom. After consultation by the multidisciplinary team of tuberous sclerosis complex, the patient was treated with everolimus orally and followed up regularly. It is suggested that dermat…

Mixed olfactory neuroblastoma and neuroendocrine carcinoma: An unusual case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to present a case of mixed olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) and carcinoma, an extremely rare tumor with only a few cases in the published literature. CASE DESCRIPTION: An otherwise healthy 27-year-old male presented with sinus complaints, headache, and unilateral eye discharge. Imaging and endoscopy revealed a mass presumed to represent a juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. Unexpectedly, the final pathology report revealed high grade mixed ONB and carcinoma. This tumor is the sixth and youngest documented patient with mixed ONB and carcinoma. CONCLUSION: P…

Cardiac self-limiting rhabdomyomas in a neonatal patient with tuberous sclerosis complex: a case report with negative genetic testing.

BACKGROUND: Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a hereditary condition that leads to the development of non-malignant neoplasms in various organs, including cardiac rhabdomyomas, which can cause significant complications. CASE PRESENTATION: This report describes the case of a 15-day-old male neonate who was hospitalized due to intracardiac masses and brain lesions, despite the absence of TSC gene mutations. The patient's mother exhibited facial angiofibromas, a common feature of TSC. Over a 2-year follow-up period, spontaneous regression of the cardiac tumor was observed. CONCLUSIONS: This c…

Pedunculated cavernous hemangioma originating in the olfactory cleft.

Sinonasal cavernous hemangioma is a rare condition that usually affects the lateral wall of the nasal cavity. We report the case of a 77-year-old man who presented with severe epistaxis, nasal congestion, and olfactory dysfunction. Endoscopic examination of the nasal cavity revealed the presence of a red-blue tumor that had almost completely filled the nasopharynx. Preoperatively, it was difficult to distinguish this lesion from a juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. During endoscopic surgery, the tumor was found to originate in the left olfactory cleft, and it had a long peduncle that contai…

Fat poor angiomyolipoma with lymphadenopathy: Diagnostic dilemma.

A 24-year-old lady presented with left flank pain of 3 months duration. She had stigmata of tuberous sclerosis complex in the form of angiofibromas on face, ash-leaf macules on back and right upper limb and shagreen patches over back. Computed tomography scan of the abdomen showed 6.5 cm × 5.0 cm × 4.4 cm lobulated intensely enhancing exophytic mass lesion in mid pole of left kidney with significant para-aortic lymphadenopathy with no evidence of fat in the mass. She underwent radical left nephrectomy with a provisional diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma. Histopathological examination showed mu…

A novel TSC1 mutation (c.1964delA) in a Chinese patient with tuberous sclerosis complex.

Tuberous sclerosis complex is an autosomal-dominant heritable disease caused by mutations in the TSC1 and TSC2 genes. We studied a Chinese patient with sporadic tuberous sclerosis complex. The clinical features of this patient included epilepsy, hypomelanotic macules and angiofibromas on his back; a cranial CT scan showed subependymal nodules along the lateral walls of the lateral ventricles. The TSC1 and TSC2 genes were studied by PCR and direct sequencing of the entire coding region and exon-intron boundaries of these genes. A novel deletion mutation (c.1964delA) in the TSC1 gene exon 15 was…

[Tuberous sclerosis with pulmonary involvment].

Tuberous sclerosis (TS) is a rare, sporadic or autosomal dominant disease characterized by the triad of seizures, mental retardation and angiofibromas. Lungs are rarely involved in TS, and pulmonary involvement is almost always found in females. We report the case of a 52 year -old female, nonsmoker, with a history of seizures in childhood and renal angiomyolipomas. She presented no complaints and her physical exam was normal. Chest CT performed for the evaluation of the disease detected thin-walled pulmonary cysts in both lungs. Lung function tests were normal. Cortical tubers and calcified s…

Coexistence of two neurocutaneous syndromes: tuberous sclerosis and hypomelanosis of Ito.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and hypomelanosis of Ito (HI) are two uncommon neurocutaneous syndromes and their coexistence is extremely rare. An epileptic child presented with progressively increasing multiple hypopigmented macules arranged in a linear and whorled pattern along the lines of Blaschko over the trunk and limbs, characteristic of HI. He also had facial angiofibromas, ash-leaf and confetti macules and shagreen patches. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed cortical tubers and subependymal nodules; which are diagnostic of TSC. The TSC defining loci have been mapped to C…

Comprehensive Clinical Presentation in a Case of Coexisting Sturge-Weber Syndrome and Neurofibromatosis Type 1.

Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) and Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) are both genetic disorders with distinct clinical manifestations. NF1 is characterized by multiple neurofibromas, café-au-lait spots, axillary freckling, and potential optic gliomas due to mutations in the NF1 gene on chromosome 17. In contrast, SWS is marked by capillary malformations, leptomeningeal angiofibromas, and congenital glaucoma resulting from post-zygotic mutations in the Guanine Nucleotide-Binding Protein (G Protein), subunit Alpha (GNAQ) gene. Here, we report an exceptional coexistence of both NF1 and SWS. The patient…
