Spontaneous regression of testicular germ cell tumors (GCTs) is a well-recognized phenomenon but has been incompletely characterized. Many pathologists are not familiar with the findings that support a diagnosis of a "burnt-out" primary in a patient with metastatic GCT. We therefore report the clinical, gross, and histologic findings in 42 cases of testicular GCT that showed either complete (26) or greater than 50% scarring (16). PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to present an updated picture of surgical management of pediatric testicular tumors based on our 30 years' experience, which consisted of one of the largest noncollected series treated in a single medical center.
METHODS: Records of children who were treated for testicular tumor in our unit from 1970 to 1999, inclusive, were reviewed retrospectively. Information recorded for each patient included age, sex, past medical history, clinical characteristics, diagnostic procedures, treatment methods, histopathologic findings, and outcome.

After cesarean section, a 30-year-old patient with HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count in association with preeclampsia) had fever, jaundice, loss of ascites, and a cardiac murmur. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a tumor extending from the left lobe of the liver into the inferior vena cava, right atrium, and ventricle. The biopsy specimen revealed an embryonal sarcoma of the liver. On the second day of chemotherapy, the patient died of intra-abdominal hemorrhage from the tumor.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze the sensitivity and specificity of high resolution ultrasound in testicular tumors.
METHODS: The study comprised 18 histologically confirmed testicular tumors. Patient ages ranged from 19 to 79 years (mean 41). The ultrasound and the anatomopathological findings were compared.

Testicular ultrasound scanning was performed in 192 men with a history of cryptorchidism. The ultrasonic tissue pattern was evaluated and each testis was accordingly given a score on a scale from 1 to 4, 1 representing the normal uniform pattern and 4 being a very irregular pattern. Although well recognized in the literature, the contemporary clinicopathologic data regarding choriocarcinoma (CC) as a pure or the predominant component of a testicular germ cell tumor (GCT) are limited.
