Leiner's disease associated with metabolic acidosis.

A female infant with failure to thrive, erythroderma and recurrent diarrhoea died at 10 months of age from a Haemophilus influenzae respiratory tract infection. Her clinical course was complicated by a persistent metabolic acidosis. Investigations revealed a low level of the fourth component of complement and reduced neutrophil mobility.

Eruptive seborrheic keratoses associated with erythrodermic pityriasis rubra pilaris. Possible role of retinoid therapy.

A 74-year-old female patient with an erythrodermic pityriasis rubra pilaris developed multiple seborrheic keratoses during the early stage of the skin disorder. There was no evidence of an underlying internal malignancy. Initially, the patient was treated with etretinate. The seborrheic keratoses all faded away during the next 3-4 months without any specific treatment. The possible role of retinoid treatment in the resolution of seborrheic keratoses is discussed.

Case Report of Toxic Shock-like Syndrome Associated with Mixed Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus halichoeri and Dermatophilus spp. Infection in a Dog.

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a serious, often fatal disease, rarely occurring in dogs via infection with Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. The development of TSS is mainly dependent on the presence of bacterial toxins recognized to be potent superantigens causing the release of massive amounts of host inflammatory cytokines, notably TNF-α, progressing to high fever, hypotension, haemoconcentration, thrombosis and neutrophil and endothelial activation with multiple organ failure. Rarely, TSS is associated with erythematous and exfoliative dermatitis progressing to ulceration with extremely ext

Adult staphylococcus scalded skin syndrome in a peritoneal dialysis patient.

Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS), a generalized exfoliative dermatitis complicating infections by exfoliative toxin-producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, is rarely observed in adults, especially in those with chronic renal failure. In contrast to the mortality in infants, the mortality in adults is usually high. A case of generalized SSSS in a peritoneal dialysis patient is reported. A-62-year old Japanese man in whom peritoneal dialysis had been carried out was admitted to our hospital with acute peritonitis. It was intractable peritonitis in terms of resistance to various an

Carbon fiber-laminated epoxy resin causing chronic occupational dermatosis: presentation with erythroderma and dyschromia-a case report.

Epoxy resins are a common cause of occupational allergic contact dermatitis. Carbon fiber-laminated epoxy resin (CFLER) is a newer material with enhanced mechanical properties, but its health effects remain underreported. A 46-year-old male worker developed erythroderma involving >90% of his body surface and dyschromia after chronic exposure to CFLER in a confined workspace. Skin biopsy demonstrated features of chronic dermatitis, and immunohistochemistry revealed uneven melanocyte distribution. Laboratory studies showed elevated immunoglobulin E levels without internal organ dysfunction. Ches

Skin disease in goats (Capra aegagrus hircus): a retrospective study of 358 cases at a university veterinary teaching hospital (1988-2020).

BACKGROUND: Goats are important worldwide as a source of milk, meat, fibre and hide, and as show animals and pets. HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES: To document the type, signalment associations and prevalence of skin disease in a referral hospital population. ANIMALS: Case population at a university veterinary teaching hospital. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Retrospective study by searching computerised medical records of goats seen between 1 January 1988 and 1 January 2021. Key words employed were "alopecia, caseous lymphadenitis, Chorioptes, dermatitis, dermatophyte, dermatophytosis, goat, lice, louse, ma

Delayed diagnosis of DRESS syndrome in a patient with skin of color.

We describe a particularly severe case of drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome with hemodynamic instability, erythroderma, profound eosinophilia, and severe organ dysfunction. We attribute the severity in part to a delay in diagnosis due to patient's skin of color, as the erythroderma was not noticed until a dermatologist was consulted. This case highlights how even severe skin disease can present less conspicuously in patients with darker skin types. We outline several strategies that can help clinicians to recognize DRESS and other skin disease phenotypes in

Erythroderma combined with deeper dermal dermatophytosis due to Trichophyton rubrum in a patient with myasthenia gravis: first case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Dermatophytes are the most common causative pathogens of mycoses worldwide and usually cause superficial infections. However, they can enter deep into the dermis lead to invasive dermatophytosis such as deeper dermal dermatophytosis on rare occasions. Erythroderma is a severe dermatological manifestation of various diseases resulting in generalized skin redness, but erythroderma due to fungi infections is barely reported. In this article, we reported the first case of erythroderma combined with deeper dermal dermatophytosis due to Trichophyton rubrum (T. rubrum) in a patient with m

Deep Phenotyping of Superficial Epidermolytic Ichthyosis due to a Recurrent Mutation in KRT2.

Superficial epidermolytic ichthyosis (SEI) is an autosomal dominant inherited ichthyosis. SEI is caused by mutations in KRT2 and frequently shows erythroderma and widespread blistering at birth. We report the clinical manifestations of two patients from a Japanese family with SEI caused by a hotspot mutation, p.Glu487Lys, in KRT2. In addition, we summarize previous reports on SEI patients with the identical mutation. One of the two patients had disease onset at the age of 7 months. The other patient's age of onset is unknown, but it was in childhood. Neither of the two patients showed erythrod

A case of cutaneous bullous mastocytosis in a Yorkshire terrier puppy.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous bullous mastocytosis (CBM) is a rare disease characterised by erythroderma, bullae formation on trunk, scalp and extremities which evolve to erosions. OBJECTIVE: To describe a rare variant of cutaneous mastocytosis and treatment options. ANIMAL: A 7-month-old Yorkshire terrier puppy with erythroderma and bullae formation. METHODS: Clinical examination (including haematological, biochemical and radiographic), skin biopsy, histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluation. CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The case fulfills the criteria of CBM, representing a rare e

Erythrodermic dermatophytosis: an alarming consequence of steroid abuse and misuse. A multicentre prospective study from India.

Erythroderma is usually attributed to some of the commoner causes such as eczematous disorders, psoriasis, malignancies, idiopathic situations and drug-induced scenarios. Rarely, erythroderma has been found to result from dermatophytic infections. Erythrodermic dermatophytosis may be a direct sequel of extensive tinea corporis (with or without a background of topical steroid misuse), paraneoplastic phenomenon, an id reaction or congenital erythrodermic disorders, with subsequent development of dermatophytosis. We present a series of patients who developed erythrodermic dermatophytosis on a bac

Treatment of erythrodermic psoriasis with biologics: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Biologic medications for plaque psoriasis have been used to treat erythrodermic psoriasis (EP). Since the guidelines for management of EP were published, new biologic medications have been approved for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the evidence of biologic medications in the treatment of EP based on response and tolerability. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted with the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Scopus databases through December 31, 2018. Studies reporting 1 or more cases of EP, defined as >75% body surface area involvement, in pat
