RATIONALE: To investigate the early and mid-term clinical outcomes of the modified cone reconstruction in the treatment of Ebstein's anomaly (EA) which provide appropriate surgical treatment for clinical and reduce the incidence of re-operation and valve replacement.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Clinical data of 18 consecutive patients with EA in our hospital between May 2008 and August 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. All patients were diagnosed by echocardiography. Among these patients, according to New York Heart Association functional grade, there were 12 patients with grade II cardiac function a

Ebstein's anomaly is a congenital disorder characterized by apical displacement of the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve. Ebstein's anomaly may be seen in association with other cardiac conditions, including patent foramen ovale, atrial septal defect, and left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC). LVNC is characterized by increased trabeculation within the left ventricular apex. Echocardiography is often used to diagnose LVNC; however, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging offers superior characterization of the myocardium. We report a case of sudden cardiac death in a patient with Ebstein's anomaly

Ebstein's anomaly (EA) is a rare congenital heart disease of the tricuspid valve, and less than 5% of patients with EA survive beyond the age of 50. We report two unoperated cases of EA in adult patients aged over 50 years. Two patients, a 70-year-old Japanese woman and a 59-year-old Chinese woman, were referred to us for tachyarrhythmias. Transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated apical displacement (>8 mm/m(2) body surface area) of the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve from the atrioventricular ring with tricuspid regurgitation in both patients. The former suddenly expired 20 months la

Predicting outcomes of foetuses with Ebstein's anomaly and tricuspid valve dysplasia continues to be challenging. Limited data exist on the prognostic significance of prenatal haemodynamic and functional parameters in this population. Our aim was to investigate the prognostic significance of haemodynamic and ventricular functional parameters in addition to associated morphometric parameters in patients with Ebstein's anomaly. We reviewed medical records of foetuses with Ebstein's anomaly and tricuspid valve dysplasia at All Children's Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins Universit

We describe a case report of a patient with cardiac arrest and Ebstein's anomaly. This case report shows us necessity for arrhythmia evaluation and sudden death risk stratification even in asymptomatic patients. Prophylactic ICD implantation in this patient population is limited to observational studies and the selection of patients is impeded by the absence of randomized trials and weak predictors.

Ebstein's anomaly (EA) is a rare congenital malformation of the tricuspid valve, often associated with other cardiac malformations, especially atrial septal defect, which is present in 80-90% of patients and predisposes to paradoxical embolization. We describe the case of a 47-year-old male, a drug abuser, with a known but not investigated cardiac murmur. He presented to the emergency department with worsening exertional dyspnea and fatigue associated with recent recurrent transient ischemic attacks. On brain computed tomography there were multiple non-recent ischemic infarctions. Transthoraci

BACKGROUND: The surgical management of Ebstein's anomaly represents a major challenge.
METHODS: Thirty consecutive patients with Ebstein's anomaly received surgical treatment in the period from April 2002 to October 2009. Operations included annuloplasty, repair of the tricuspid valve using autologous pericardium and tricuspid valve replacement. In most cases, repair of the tricuspid valve was done using autologous pericardium instead of an annuloplasty with the anterior leaflet alone. Associated congenital malformations were also repaired during the operation. Follow-up ranged from 6 to 82 m

Two girls, aged 14 and 11 years, with Ebstein's anomaly, were treated by simple posterior annular plication of the functional annulus, without plication of the atrialized right ventricle. At follow-up after 15 and 12 months, both patients were in functional class I with no tricuspid regurgitation on echocardiography. This technique looks simple, safe, and effective, particularly for mild forms of Ebstein's anomaly, but the longevity of this repair remains to be determined.

Several repair techniques for Ebstein's anomaly include aggressive mobilization of the anterior leaflet and the construction of a monobicuspid valve coapting against the interventricular septum. This can prove difficult when leaflet tissue is of poor quality or several fenestrations reduce leaflet surface. We present a simple and highly reproducible technique for restoring tissue continuity of the anterior leaflet that could represent a possible addendum to the existing array of surgical solutions. Two surgical cases are described. Both patients showed good valve function and trivial tricuspid

We present the echocardiographic analysis of an 86-year-old man affected by Ebstein's anomaly. In the natural history of this congenital disease only 5% of patients survive beyond the fifth decade. The patient presented severe right atrial dilatation and right heart failure, and he was referred to our institution for supraventricular tachycardia.

OBJECTIVE: We studied the long-term results of vertical plication repair of Ebstein's anomaly according to Carpentier.
METHODS: Between 1988 and 2007, 28 patients (mean age 28.8+/-15.7 years, range 4-58 years) underwent vertical plication repair of Ebstein's anomaly. At operation the anomaly was classified according to Carpentier. In three patients (11%) a cavopulmonary shunt was added at the repair on the indication of impaired right ventricular function.
RESULTS: There was no operative mortality. Early mortality was 3.6% (one patient). Actuarial survival and actuarial freedom from reoperat

BACKGROUND: Severely symptomatic neonates and young infants with Ebstein's anomaly usually die without surgical intervention. The relative risks and benefits of single-ventricle palliation versus a two-ventricle repair are uncertain. In a recent series, 69% early survival with single-ventricle palliation was reported in 16 neonates with Ebstein's anomaly. Our institutional bias has been to do a two-ventricle repair in all such patients.
METHODS: We reviewed our entire surgical experience with a two-ventricle repair in the severely symptomatic neonate (n = 22) and young infant (n = 5). The ind

There is a gradually growing interest in the subject of congenital heart diseases as many children born with them are now growing into adulthood. The reasons are twofold: increasing awareness among clinicians as well as major advances in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart diseases in children. A case of Ebstein's anomaly (EA), one of the most important congenital diseases of the tricuspid valve, in an 80 year old woman referred to the cardiology clinic of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City, Nigeria, is hereby reported. It is a rare condition. The features demo

The outcome of patients with Ebstein's malformation depends mainly on the severity of the tricuspid valve malformation. Accurate description of the tricuspid anatomy by two-dimensional echocardiography remains difficult. We applied real-time three-dimensional echocardiography to 3 patients with Ebstein's anomaly. Preoperative and postoperative descriptions of the tricuspid valve were obtained from views taken inside the right ventricle. Surface of the leaflets as well as the commissures were obtained by three-dimensional echocardiography. Real time three-dimensional echocardiography is a promi
