BACKGROUND: Procedural experience for residents and fellows is critical for achieving competence, and documentation of procedures performed is required. Procedure logs serve as the record of this experience, but are commonly generated manually, require substantial administrative effort, and cannot be corroborated for accuracy.
OBJECTIVE: We developed and implemented a structured clinical-educational report template (CERT), which automatically generates procedure logs directly from the clinical record.
METHODS: Our CERT aimed to replace the post-procedure note template for our cardiac cathete

As we begin the 21st century, musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) is routinely used by an increasing number of rheumatologists throughout Europe and there is a growing interest in the application of MSUS in rheumatological practice in the UK. MSUS allows high-resolution, real-time imaging of articular and periarticular structures and has the advantages of being non-radioactive, inexpensive, portable, highly acceptable to patients and repeatable. There are a number of critical issues that need to be addressed in order to develop the role of MSUS within rheumatology. These include issues of equipm

The Medical Training (Prioritisation) Act 2026 provides preferential access to specialty training for UK and Irish medical graduates, graduates from certain European countries, and some internationally qualified doctors with specified immigration status. The policy has been introduced in response to the considerable pressure on specialty training: in 2025, 40,965 unique medical applicants applied in rounds 1 and 2 for 12,833 positions, as compared with 22,248 applicants applying for 11,579 positions in 2021. This article contends that while prioritisation redistributes access to limited traini

Brachytherapy is an essential skill in the practice of radiation oncology and is an important component of high-quality, full-service radiation oncology departments. With rapidly changing technology, the role of brachytherapy is constantly evolving, but it remains critically important for optimal patient care in several disease sites. As a procedural aspect of radiation oncology practice, brachytherapy requires a fundamentally different and more focused training approach, with specific training objectives, a unique knowledge base, and specialized training environment. The existing gap in brach

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Home dialysis remains variable and underused globally despite clinical and quality of life benefits for patients. Due to low patient volumes in many centers, it is challenging for nephrology trainees to gain adequate clinical exposure to achieve competency and comfort in patient management. In this review, we highlight the University of Toronto-affiliated University Health Network (UHN) and St. Michael's Hospital (SMH) Home Dialysis Fellowship as an educational model to improve competency and comfort in home dialysis.
RECENT FINDINGS: The UHN/SMH Home Dialysis Fellowship of

This Perspective offers historical and sociological analyses of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education's (CAPTE) 2016 standard requiring that at least 50% of core faculty in all physical therapist education programs hold an academic doctorate, PhD, EdD, or ScD. The author associates this mandate's development with longstanding concerns among physical therapy leaders about their field's academic status and research productivity, as well as with changes in faculty training backgrounds following the adoption of the required entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degre

Cardiology training in the UK is facing significant challenges due to a range of factors. Recent curriculum changes have further compounded this issue and significantly risk the ability to produce adequately trained consultants capable of managing patients with increasingly complex cardiovascular disease. The introduction of mandatory dual accreditation in general internal medicine (GIM) alongside cardiology, by design, results in significantly reduced training opportunities, including procedural and subspecialty exposure. Despite prolongation in training duration to mitigate these effects, mo
