Psychological impacts of AI-induced job displacement among Indian IT professionals: a Delphi-validated thematic analysis.

PURPOSE: This study investigates the psychological impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven job displacement among Indian IT professionals. It specifically explores how individuals psychologically experience the loss of roles due to automation, and how these experiences influence their emotional, cognitive, and behavioural well-being. METHOD: A qualitative phenomenological approach was used to capture the lived experiences of 24 IT professionals who faced AI-induced job loss or reassignment. Data were collected via in-depth semi-structured interviews and analysed through thematic analysi

A neurocognitive model of borderline personality disorder: effects of childhood sexual abuse and relationship to adult social attachment disturbance.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a paradigmatic disorder of adult attachment, with high rates of antecedent childhood maltreatment. The neurocognitive correlates of both attachment disturbance and maltreatment are both presently unknown in BPD. This study evaluated whether dimensional adult attachment disturbance in BPD is related to specific neurocognitive deficits, and whether childhood maltreatment is related to these dysfunctions. An outpatient BPD group (n=43) performed nearly 1 SD below a control group (n=26) on short-term recall, executive, and intelligence functions. These defi

Teaching resident physicians to work with the previously incarcerated patient.

Over 2 million adults in the United States are incarcerated and over 650,000 return to the community each year. This disparate population is known to have an elevated burden of chronic disease and lower socioeconomic status. Medical residency training about care for incarcerated or previously incarcerated patients is significantly lacking in the United States. Curriculum can be developed and implemented in residency programs to help physicians learn how to work with this population, be sensitive to their unique needs, and achieve positive health outcomes. This article describes a method for "e

Identification of emotional facial expressions among behaviorally inhibited adolescents with lifetime anxiety disorders.

The current study examined differences in emotion expression identification between adolescents characterised with behavioural inhibition (BI) in childhood with and without a lifetime history of anxiety disorder. Participants were originally assessed for BI during toddlerhood and for social reticence during childhood. During adolescence, participants returned to the laboratory and completed a facial emotion identification task and a clinical psychiatric interview. Results revealed that behaviorally inhibited adolescents with a lifetime history of anxiety disorder displayed a lower threshold fo

Cognitive emotion regulation in euthymic bipolar disorder.

BACKGROUND: Based on findings indicating increased stress reactivity and prolonged stress recovery in individuals with bipolar disorder (BD), it has been proposed that emotion regulation (ER) deficits lie at the core of this disorder. Recent studies show an increased use of maladaptive ER strategies and a decreased use of adaptive ER strategies in BD. Whether this pattern is merely a correlate of affective episodes or might be a stable characteristic of BD, however, remains to be explored. In addition, it is unclear whether these deficits in ER are specific to people with a history of BD. MET

Classification of complex information: inference of co-occurring affective states from their expressions in speech.

We present a classification algorithm for inferring affective states (emotions, mental states, attitudes, and the like) from their nonverbal expressions in speech. It is based on the observations that affective states can occur simultaneously and different sets of vocal features, such as intonation and speech rate, distinguish between nonverbal expressions of different affective states. The input to the inference system was a large set of vocal features and metrics that were extracted from each utterance. The classification algorithm conducted independent pairwise comparisons between nine affe

Mind the gap: MIND, the mental hygiene movement and the trapdoor in measurements of intellect.

BACKGROUND: The National Association for Mental Health adopted the 'brand name' MIND as part of its transformation into a campaigning pressure group at the turn of the 1970s. This article examines the historical antecedents to key statements made by the organisation at this time regarding the relationship of mental health with, what was then called, 'mental handicap'. METHODS: The National Association is placed within the historical context of the movement for mental hygiene. The article traces how the movement theorised mental health as critically related to intellect and emotionality. RESU

Cognitive Deficits, Apathy, and Hypersomnolence Represent the Core Brain Symptoms of Adult-Onset Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 is the most common form of muscular dystrophy in adults, and is primarily characterized by muscle weakness and myotonia, yet some of the most disabling symptoms of the disease are cognitive and behavioral. Here we evaluated several of these non-motor symptoms from a cross-sectional time-point in one of the largest longitudinal studies to date, including full-scale intelligence quotient, depression, anxiety, apathy, sleep, and cerebral white matter fractional anisotropy in a group of 39 adult-onset myotonic dystrophy type 1 participants (27 female) compared to 79 unaff

Self-initiated humour protocol: a pilot study with an AI agent.

INTRODUCTION: Non-hostile humour and laughter have been known for therapeutic benefits in an individual's mental health and wellbeing. To this end, we evaluated the Self-Initiated Humour Protocol (SIHP), a new type of self-administrable laughter intervention that utilises spontaneous and self-induced laughter. Rooted in the core principles of the Self-Attachment Technique-in which an individual creates an affectional bond with their childhood self as represented by their childhood photo or personalised childhood avatar-SIHP provides an algorithmic framework for individuals to learn to laugh in

Integrative Intelligence as an Operative Mode: Cognitive Integration through Self-Ethnographic Dialogue with AI.

This paper proposes Integrative Intelligence as an operative mode of human judgment in which temporal integration (past-present-future), contextual integration (roles, relationships, life domains), and embodied integration (body, emotion, thought, meaning-making) function simultaneously without fragmentation. It is not introduced as a new ability or developmental stage but as a mode already latent in ordinary judgment that becomes legible under particular conditions. Unlike psychometric or multiple-intelligences frameworks, this study reframes intelligence as a situationally emergent configura

Exploring Theory of Mind in Specific Learning Disorder: Subtype Differences and the Role of ADHD Comorbidity.

Specific learning disorder (SLD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairments in reading, writing and/or mathematics, often accompanied by social and emotional difficulties. Although deficits in theory of mind (ToM) have been observed in children with SLD, the variability of ToM skills across SLD subtypes remains unclear. This case-control study examined ToM skills in children diagnosed with SLD (dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia) with those of typically developing peers and investigated the effect of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) comorbidity. The sample c

Effect of constant-current pallidal deep brain stimulation for primary dystonia on cognition, mood and quality of life: Results from a prospective pilot trial.

OBJECTIVE: Knowledge on the effects of DBS on cognitive functions is limited and no data exists on the effects of constant-current DBS (CC-GPi-DBS), which appears to prevail over constant-voltage stimulation. Our aim was to prospectively assess the effect of Constant-Current-GPi-DBS, using an 8-contact lead, on cognition, mood and quality of life. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ten patients aged 27-49 underwent prospective neuropsychological assessment using dedicated tests. Various cognitive domains (intelligence, executive functions, memory, attention, visuo-spatial perception, verbal intelligence)

Wide-ranging cognitive deficits in adolescents following early life maltreatment.

OBJECTIVE: Studies of adolescents with histories of maltreatment typically report specific cognitive deficits in higher order functioning and attention. Emerging evidence suggests that the cognitive difficulties seen in maltreated adolescents are much broader, and go beyond executive functioning impairments. This study examined whether maltreated adolescents exhibited cognitive deficits across a number of cognitive domains, in addition to executive functioning. METHOD: A group of 39 adolescents with documented histories of severe maltreatment were compared with 43 controls on measures of lear
