Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is increasingly used in orthopedics, with its regenerative potential attributed to platelet-derived cytokines and growth factors. However, variability in PRP composition hampers standardization and reproducibility, contributing to inconsistent outcomes. We report an unusual case of a patient having low glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) below the reportable range, despite having borderline fasting blood glucose. The patient had decreased erythrocytes count and elevated reticulocyte count, with no evidence of hemoglobinopathy. He reported taking multidrug therapy for borderline lepromatous leprosy. Morphologic studies have thus far failed to demonstrate the nature of the vessel involved in the brain hemorrhages of patients with acute leukemia. A detailed study of such hemorrhages was carried out in a patient with leukemic phase of mycosis fungoides. Plastic-embedded lesions showed that blast cells blocked the lumen of the capillary, leading to severe dilation and rupture of the vessel. The rheologic properties of blast cells in vessels of critical diameters seem to be an important factor in the pathogenesis of intracerebral hemorrhages.

An examination was made of the haematology of spenectomised calves experimentally infected with Babesia divergens and Ehrlichia phagocytophila, inoculated separately or simultaneously. Animals infected with both pathogens had less marked changes in their haematology than those inoculated with either pathogen separately. This appeared to result from the early elimination of the more pathogenic Babesia as Ehrlichia spread through the granulocytes. The apparent suppression of Babesia by Ehrlichia would appear to merit further investigation.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the demographics, clinical, and laboratory findings and treatment responses of patients with hereditary spherocytosis (HS).

A 13 year old Thoroughbred gelding was presented with a history of a single episode of collapse during mild exercise. Clinical examination revealed a high packed cell volume (PCV) of 72%, a haemoglobin concentration of 24.9 g/l and 15.2 millions erythrocytes/microliters. Despite continuous intravenous infusion therapy with large volumes, the PCV never decreased to a physiological level. The animal showed a normal appetite and no signs of discomfort or syncope. Arterial blood gas values were in the normal range as well as the concentration of erythropoietin (measured by radioimmunoassay, RIA).
