The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) can undergo reactive hyperplasia and metaplasia following a variety of ocular insults. However, true neoplasms of the RPE are rare. We report a case of a papillary adenocarcinoma of the RPE arising in the blind staphylomatous right eye of a 79-year-old woman with a long history of bilateral posterior staphylomas who was seen with increasing pain and exophthalmos of the right eye. Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) is an autosomal dominant familial tumor predisposition syndrome characterized by the growth of benign and malignant tumors involving the peripheral and central nervous system. In the following report, the authors describe a case of a 1-year-old child with NF-1, who underwent enucleation for a blind, proptotic, painful eye with subsequent histopathological examination revealing choroidal ganglioneuroma, a very rare entity.

We report a case of intraocular lacrimal gland choristoma presenting very early in a preterm infant with hyphema, a mass lesion and raised intraocular pressure. Enucleation of the involved eye, which is the treatment in most cases, was performed and prosthesis was fitted successfully. An interesting additional finding in our patient was a choroidal defect, not reported to date with other cases in the literature.

Enucleation of the right eye was performed on a 12-year-old male Persian cat when therapy for uveitis failed. Histologic examination of the anterior and posterior chambers and the vitreous led to a diagnosis of endophthalmitis caused by Coccidioides immitis infection. The primary focus of infection was not determined. Latex particle agglutination, agar gel immunodiffusion, and complement fixation gave negative results for Coccidioides immitis antibody.

A previously diagnosed child of persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV) with painless blind eye remained clinically silent for about 3 years follow-up. The child suddenly presented as a case of orbital cellulitis and panopthalmitis with meningitis. No definite mass lesion was detected on ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) scan. Histopathology of the enucleated eye revealed intra-ocular medulloepithelioma as the culprit of sterile panophthalmitis and orbital inflammation.

PURPOSE: We report a rare case of rapid transformation of a conjunctival keratoacanthoma (KA) into a highly aggressive squamous cell carcinoma requiring enucleation. To our knowledge, this is the second such case reported in the literature.

AIM: To report the experience of the authors with efficacy and toxicity of periocular chemotherapy over a 12-year period.
METHODS: 102 periocular injections of 2 cc (10 mg of carboplatin/1 cc) were given every 4-6 weeks in 33 eyes of 29 patients. Patient's data were reviewed retrospectively.
RESULTS: Thirty-three eyes were followed for 7-148 months following initiation of periocular injections, and 13 (39%) have avoided enucleation. There were two cases of second malignancy resulting in one death and one survivor, two survivors of metastatic disease, and two survivors of orbital recurrence.

BACKGROUND: Retinoblastoma (Rb) is the most common intraocular malignancy in childhood, originating from primitive retinal stem cells or cone precursor cells. It can be triggered by mutations of the RB1 gene or amplification of the MYCN gene. Rb may rarely present with polydactyly.
METHODS: We conducted karyotype analysis, copy number variation sequencing, and whole-genome sequencing on the infant proband and his family. The clinical course and laboratory results of the proband's infant were documented and collected. We also reviewed the relevant literature.

AIM: To describe 4 cases of conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with corneal stromal invasion.
METHODS: Retrospective, clinicopathologic case series.
RESULTS: All patients had prior resections of presumed pterygia. The degree of corneal involvement dictated the extent of surgical management. AIM: To report the characteristics and clinical presentations of retinoblastoma in a series of pediatric patients from Iran.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, profiles of pediatric patients with retinoblastoma archived in a referral eye hospital in north-west of Iran during 7 years (n=40 patients with 57 eyes) were reviewed. Demographics, as well as the laterality, clinical manifestations and the types of treatment were the major endpoints. Scleritis can be a destructive disease frequently associated with autoimmune disorders.
