Research on the Mechanical Properties and Durability Against Freeze-Thaw of Latex-Modified OPC-Based Materials.

The intrinsic brittleness and poor crack resistance of OPC-based materials severely limit their service durability under complex environments. In this study, a composite latex polymer was fabricated via an ambient-temperature APS/STS redox initiation system, using N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a cross-linking agent and incorporating reactive SiO2 and MgO as synergistic reinforcing fillers. The composite latex was incorporated into OPC paste, and its effects on the mechanical strength, freeze-thaw resistance, water permeability, and microstructural characteristics of the hardened composi

Investigation of the failure behaviour of vertebral trabecular architectures under uni-axial compression and wedge action loading conditions.

Vertebral wedge fractures are associated with combined compression and flexure loading and are the most common fracture type for human vertebrae. In this study, rapid prototype (RP) biomodels of human vertebral trabecular bone were mechanically tested under uni-axial compression loading and also under wedge action loading (combination of compression and flexure loading) to investigate the mode of failure and the ultimate loads that could be sustained under these different loading conditions. Two types of trabecular bone models were manufactured and tested: baseline models which were directly d

Interface-Controlled Structural Behaviour of 3D Printed Concrete: Lessons from Masonry for Anisotropy, Print-Path Design and Standardisation.

The structural application of 3D printed concrete (3DPC) is still constrained by the difficulty of qualifying a layered, process-dependent material using standards developed mainly for cast concrete and conventional masonry. This review examines 3DPC through masonry construction to clarify how interface-controlled behaviour should be interpreted, tested and standardised. The comparison is not based on material similarity, but on the shared structural role of joints, interfaces and assemblage-level load transfer. Most previous reviews mainly discuss printability, mixture design, material develo

Carbonized Hemp Fiber for Use in Composites.

This study investigates the use of carbonized hemp fiber (CHF) as a reinforcement for phenol resorcinol formaldehyde (PRF)-based fiber composites. The hemp fiber was carbonized slowly up to 1000 °C under N2 with a yield of 18%. Compression-molded composites were prepared with CHF and then compared to hemp (HF) and wood fiber (WF) at 0 to 50% loading with PRF resin. The flow characteristics of the uncured composites were determined by dynamic rheology and showed pseudoplastic behavior; the composites show promise as extrudable materials. The flexural strength of the HF composites (69 MPa for 40…
