The U-Box/ARM E3 ligase PUB13 regulates cell death, defense, and flowering time in Arabidopsis.

The components in plant signal transduction pathways are intertwined and affect each other to coordinate plant growth, development, and defenses to stresses. The role of ubiquitination in connecting these pathways, particularly plant innate immunity and flowering, is largely unknown. Here, we report the dual roles for the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) Plant U-box protein13 (PUB13) in defense and flowering time control. In vitro ubiquitination assays indicated that PUB13 is an active E3 ubiquitin ligase and that the intact U-box domain is required for the E3 ligase activity. Disruption of

Effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization and two levels of compost supply on nutrient uptake and flowering of pelargonium plants.

Two challenges frequently encountered in the production of ornamental plants in organic horticulture are: (1) the rate of mineralization of … ys completely meet plant nutrient demand. Mycorrhizal colonization increased the number of buds and flowers, as well as shoot P and potassium (K) concentrations, but did not significantly affect shoot dry matter or shoot N concentration. We conclude that addition of compost in combination with mycorrhizal inoculation can improve nutrient status and flower …

The ga3ox1b mutation reveals the crosstalk between gibberellin and other phytohormones in controlling the growth and development of female flowers in Cucurbita pepo.

Cucurbita pepo is a monoecious species with female and male unisexual flowers on the same plant. The large size of its flowers makes this species a model for studying the regulation of sex determination and sex-associated developmental traits. Because male flowers appear at earlier stages of plant development than female flowers, the plant has evolved a system in which female flowers grow and open much faster than male flowers in order to synchronize male and female flowering for proper pollination and fertilization. In this paper, we show that this differential growth of female and male flowe…

Novel blue-pea flowers derived-carbon dots/iron oxide nanohybrid as sustainable "turn-off" fluorescent nanosensor for selective Fe3+ detection in food samples.

Developing a novel fluorescence carbon-based sensor with high sensitivity, selectivity, and rapid response is critical for detecting ferric ion (Fe3+) in beverages and food products. Overcoming this challenge is essential, as excess Fe3+ can cause cellular damage, raising health concerns. Herein, we designed a fluorescence nanosensor utilizing a hybrid iron oxide/carbon dots (HICs) nanocomposite, synthesized from blue pea (BPs) flowers and iron oxide nanoparticles through a hydrothermal treatment. More importantly, the HICs demonstrated high sensitivity and a rapid response to Fe3+, with a lin…

Chemoprevention with aqueous extract of Butea monosperma flowers results in normalization of nuclear morphometry and inhibition of a proliferation marker in liver tumors.

Butea monosperma (Lam.) (family: Fabaceae) popularly known as 'Palas' or 'fire of forest' has been used traditionally as a hepatoprotective agent. This study evaluated the hepatoprotective and antitumorigenic properties of the aqueous extract and butanol fractions of B. monosperma flowers in animal models. Dried flowers of B. monosperma were extracted with water and fractionated further using n-butanol. The hepatoprotective activity of the aqueous extract was initially confirmed in a carbon tetrachloride-induced liver damage model of rats. Oral administration of the aqueous extract produced a …

Plant species with differing flowering periods tend to co-occur more in patchy vegetation of a semi-arid environment.

Stressful environments can lead to patchy vegetation patterns, bringing plants into close spatial proximity, which may intensify plant-plant interactions. These interactions are influenced by functional variation among co-occurring species, and increased variation can reduce niche overlap. One such trait, phenology, has been shown to influence both competitive and facilitative interactions. Phenological differences may reduce competition for resources and enhance facilitation between neighbouring plants during high-demand periods (e.g. flowering). We therefore hypothesized that species with mo

Flower-like NiMn LDH Microstructures as a Promising Cathode for High-Performance Hybrid Supercapacitors with Exceptional Energy Density.

The practical application potential of supercapacitors can be enhanced through designing high-performance electrode materials. In this work, NiMn layered double hydroxides (NiMn LDHs) were prepared through a hydrothermal method using hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) as an alkaline source. The morphology of NiMn LDHs was regulated by controlling the amount of HMTA, and two kinds of flower-like NiMn LDH microstructures with large open voids (NiMn LDH-6) and dense smaller petals (NiMn LDH-10) were respectively synthesized using 6 and 10 mmol HMTA. When employed as electrode material in electrochemic

Calotropis procera flower extracts: a green approach to zinc oxide with a pineapple-like nanoleaf morphology for biological applications.

Water contamination can trigger Escherichia coli (E. coli) infections, which are extremely harmful to humans. Healthy individuals typically recover within a week from symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. However, children and elderly individuals are at a higher risk of developing kidney dysfunction. To kill these life-threatening bacteria, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generating zinc oxide (ZnO) nanomaterials were synthesized via a sustainable green approach using medicinally rich Calotropis procera (C. procera) flower extract. The functional groups and wurtzite cry
