BACKGROUND: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an increasingly diagnosed disease, especially in the western world. Although its pathogenesis remains poorly understood, there is strong evidence that the eosinophilic inflammation in EoE is primarily triggered by immune dysregulation secondary to allergic sensitization to dietary or aero-allergens. We present two patients with allergic rhinitis who developed perioral dermatitis (PD) after initiating intranasal steroid spray. Both patients had been previously misdiagnosed as having contact or seborrheic dermatitis, and therefore inappropriately and unsuccessfully treated with topical steroids. OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of intranasal FP on the expression of AQP-2 in nasal polyps.
METHOD: Fourteen cases of type II phase 3 and 12 cases of type III nasal polyps were selected. FP were intranasally used in 7 cases of type II phase 3 and 6 cases of type III nasal polyps for 7 days before operation. The others, treated with nothing, were used as control. 26 nasal polyps were obtained and studied with immunohistochemical technique.
