OBJECTIVES: The aim of this article was to summarize the efficacy and safety of venous stents in chronic obstructive venous disease (COVD) including postthrombotic syndrome (PTS) and nonthrombotic iliac vein lesions (NIVL).
METHODS: We searched PubMed for case series (prospective and retrospective) that focused on venous stents in the treatment of COVD published between 1st January, 2000 and 15th July, 2014. Then, we analyzed the perioperative complications, subsequent antithrombotic treatment, clinical outcomes, and long-term patency of this procedure.

UNLABELLED: Chicken bone is one of the most frequent foreign bodies (FB) associated with upper esophageal perforation. Upper digestive tract penetrating FB may lead to life threatening complications and requires prompt management. We present the case of a 52-year-old man who sustained an upper esophageal perforation associated with cervical cellulitis and mediastinitis. Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are currently one of the most popular reversible contraception methods used world wide. Uterine perforation is a rarely observed complication. The bladder is one of the organs that an IUD can migrate to because of its close proximity to the uterus. There are about 70 cases in the literature of IUDs that have migrated into the bladder. The resulting bladder perforation can be complete or partial. Here, we report 2 cases, 1 of complete migration and the other of partial migration.

BACKGROUND: Intragastric band migration is an unusual but major long-term complication of gastric banding: its frequency ranges from 0.5-3.8% and always requires removal of the band. Different laparoscopic, laparotomic or endoscopic methods are currently used for band removal.

Metallic airway stents were used widely at the beginning of airway stent use, but an accumulation of cases has revealed complications due to their use. A patient who received a Gianturco Z stent for bronchial tuberculosis suffered massive haemoptysis due to stent migration into the aortic wall. Left pneumonectomy with aortic repair was successfully performed. We suggest that metallic stents should not be used for benign airway palliation, as they may later cause life-threatening complications.

We report a unique case of a self-inflicted brain injury using an ingenious home-made gun with spontaneous anterior migration of the intact bullet. OBJECTIVE: A patient with an anterior communicating artery aneurysm was treated by use of endovascular coiling, and a Guglielmi detachable coil (Boston Scientific/Target, Fremont, CA) fractured distal to its connection to the delivering catheter. A case of large bowel impaction caused by migration of a BioEnterics Intragastric Balloon (BIB) is presented. The literature is reviewed regarding both the use and the complications inherent in such balloon devices. Perforation of the uterus is rare but potentially fatal. During puerperium when the uterus is small and its wall is thin, the risk of perforation increases. We report a rare complication from an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) which caused deviation of the right ureter in a 31-year-old woman who presented with complaints of insomnia and abdominal pain. Our case shows that perforation of the uterus by an IUD can cause a silent urological complication. The possibility of ureteral involvement and displacement should be kept in mind in a woman in whom a missing IUD is encountered.
