Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of multidrug-resistant avian pathogenic Escherichia coli across life stages of captive African Houbara bustards: Conservation and One Health implications.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The African Houbara bustard (Chlamydotis undulata), a species of high conservation concern, is maintained through intensive captive breeding programs where bacterial diseases may compromise productivity and reintroduction success. Escherichia coli is frequently implicated in reproductive failure, early mortality, and septicemic conditions; however, integrated phenotypic and genotypic characterization of antimicrobial resistance and virulence across life stages in this species remains scarce. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of E. coli across different life stage

Predominance of antimicrobial resistance genes and high-risk clones among Gram negatives from clinical sources in Accra-Ghana.

Gram-negative bacteria species cause increasing levels of antimicrobial resistance worldwide. Enhanced surveillance efforts are required to inform treatment decisions and monitoring of the rise and spread of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) clones, especially on the African continent, where antimicrobial resistance is known to be least tackled and controlled. In this study, whole genome sequencing was used to investigate a collection of Gram negatives recovered from clinical sources. Bacterial species were identified by Matrix-assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time of Flight mass spectrometry.

Genomic tracing and resolution of environmental Klebsiella pneumoniae ST307 CTX-M-15 linked to a nosocomial urinary tract infection in a cat: a veterinary teaching hospital case study.

BACKGROUND: Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are a significant concern in human medicine and have increasingly been reported in veterinary settings as well. Veterinary Teaching Hospitals may present a heightened risk for HAIs, partly due to the lack of standardized infection control measures and screening protocols. In May 2022, a cat previously hospitalized at a Veterinary Teaching Hospital for urinary tract obstruction developed a catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). A multidrug-resistant (MDR) strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated. To investigate the suspected HAI

Complete sequences of two plasmids in a blaNDM-1-positive Klebsiella oxytoca isolate from Taiwan.

Genetic determinants of a bla(NDM-1)-positive, multidrug-resistant bacterial isolate that caused active infection was investigated by DNA sequencing. Two plasmids, pKOX_NDM1 and pKOX-R1, were identified for the Klebsiella oxytoca strain E718. Sequence annotation revealed a bla(NDM-1) gene in pKOX_NDM1 and two extended-spectrum β-lactamase producers (bla(CTX-M-3) and blaSHV-12) and a wide array of resistance genes in pKOX-R1. These findings highlight the difficulty in treating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and the potential danger of emerging resistant enterobacteria.

Overexpression of multidrug resistance genes MDR1 and cMOAT in human hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatoblastoma cell lines.

Overexpression of either of the multidrug resistance genes MDR1 and MRP is associated with resistance of tumors to multiple chemotherapeutic agents. Overexpression of MDR1 has been reported in some cell lines derived from human hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) and hepatoblastomas (HB). The human gene for cMOAT (<canalicular multispecific organic anion transporter>), a homologue of MRP, is thought to mediate hepatobiliary excretion of organic anions and to be associated with cisplatin resistance. In this study, expression levels of MDR1 and cMOAT were examined in 9 human HCC and HB cell lines an
