Early regression of left ventricular hypertrophy after aortic valve replacement by the Ross procedure detected by cine MRI.

AIM: The primary objective of our study was to assess the time course of left ventricular remodeling after the Ross procedure with the use of cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS: In a prospective study, 10 patients with isolated aortic valve disease were examined prior to aortic valve surgery, as well as at early follow-up (mean 4 weeks) and at late follow-up (mean 8 months) after pulmonary autograft aortic valve replacement (Ross procedure). The heart was imaged with a 1.5 T MR scanner along the short and long axes using a breath-hold, electrocardiogram (ECG)-triggered, cine gradi

Transcriptome landscape of the adrenal gland and superior cervical ganglion from hypertension-induced left ventricular hypertrophy rat model.

BACKGROUND: Hypertension-induced left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a cardiac structural remodeling and dysfunction resulting from chronic hypertension and is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Studies have implicated the involvement of the adrenal gland (AG) and superior cervical ganglion (SCG) in hypertension regulation. However, the molecular mechanisms of AG and SCG during hypertension-induced LVH remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the transcriptome characteristics of the left ventricle, AG, and SCG in 24-week-old spontaneously hypertensiv

Late-onset fabry disease presenting with unexplained renal failure, left ventricular hypertrophy, and recurrent syncope: a case report.

Late-onset cardiac manifestations of Fabry disease are frequently associated with high rates of missed diagnoses and misdiagnoses. We present a case of a 71-year-old male with late-onset Fabry disease whose diagnosis was delayed due to the absence of typical symptoms. The patient has a history of nephrotic syndrome and is currently suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD), undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. He was previously diagnosed with diffuse left ventricular hypertrophy and heart block. Upon admission, cardiac examination revealed reduced longitudinal strain of the left ventricle.

A machine learning prediction model for Cardiac Amyloidosis using routine blood tests in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy.

Current approaches for cardiac amyloidosis (CA) identification are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and present challenges in sensitivity and accuracy, leading to limited treatment efficacy and poor prognosis for patients. In this retrospective study, we aimed to leverage machine learning (ML) to create a diagnostic model for CA using data from routine blood tests. Our dataset included 6,563 patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, 261 of whom had been diagnosed with CA. We divided the dataset into training and testing cohorts, applying ML algorithms such as logistic regression, random fore

Ongoing assertion of two-dimensional measurements on differentiation type of left ventricular hypertrophy: Focus on inferior vena cava.

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), including hypertensive LVH, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and cardiac amyloidosis (CA), is a commonly encountered condition in cardiology practice, presenting challenges in differential diagnosis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the importance of echocardiographic evaluation of the inferior vena cava (IVC) in distinguishing LVH subtypes including hypertensive LVH, HCM, and CA. METHODS: In this retrospective study, patients with common causes of LVH including hypertensive LVH, HCM, and CA were included. The role of echocardiographic ev

Prognostic Value of Electrocardiographic Left Ventricular Hypertrophy After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: Insights from the OCEAN-TAVI Registry.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is associated with the prognosis of patients with aortic stenosis. However, the impact of the presence or absence of ECG-LVH on the clinical outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is limited. This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of ECG-LVH among patients with aortic stenosis treated by TAVI. A total of 1,667 patients who underwent TAVI were prospectively enrolled into the OCEAN-TAVI (Optimized CathEter vAlvular iNtervention-Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) registry. A total of 1,446 patients (m

Prognostic implications of residual left ventricular hypertrophy and systolic dysfunction in aortic stenosis following transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

The impact of left ventricle (LV) hypertrophy (LVH) regression on contractility-associated measures, the extent of residual cardiac dysfunction and prognostic implications after the initial remodeling process after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has not been investigated. We aimed to assess whether greater LV mass regression from pre-TAVR to 12-months after TAVR was associated with increased systolic function; and assess the prognostic value of residual LVH, systolic function and contractility-associated measures 12-months after TAVR. A total of 439 symptomatic patients were inc

Severe functional tricuspid regurgitation due to wild-type transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy without left ventricular hypertrophy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) is usually characterized by left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy or LV systolic dysfunction. However, right atrial (RA) amyloidosis without LV hypertrophy, leading to severe functional tricuspid regurgitation (FTR), is extremely rare. CASE SUMMARY: We present 75-year-old female with exertional dyspnoea and pre-syncope. Transthoracic echocardiography showed a normal LV function and no LV hypertrophy. A sick sinus syndrome and severe FTR due to right ventricular (RV) and RA dilatation were observed. A leadless cardiac pacemaker implantatio

Reversible Treatment of Pressure Overload-Induced Left Ventricular Hypertrophy through Drd5 Nucleic Acid Delivery Mediated by Functional Polyaminoglycoside.

Left ventricular hypertrophy and fibrosis are major risk factors for heart failure, which require timely and effective treatment. Genetic therapy has been shown to ameliorate hypertrophic cardiac damage. In this study, it is found that in mice, the dopamine D5 receptor (D5R) expression in the left ventricle (LV) progressively decreases with worsening of transverse aortic constriction-induced left ventricular hypertrophy. Then, a reversible treatment of left ventricular hypertrophy with Drd5 nucleic acids delivered by tobramycin-based hyperbranched polyaminoglycoside (SS-HPT) is studied. The he

Blood pressure variables and prevalent electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy in sub-Saharan African individuals with type 2 diabetes.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present study was to investigate whether brachial blood pressure (BP) variables (systolic BP [SBP], diastolic BP [DBP], pulse [PP] and mean arterial pressure [MAP]) are similar determinants of prevalent electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in sub-Saharan Africans with type 2 diabetes (T2D). METHODS: The study included 420 individuals (49% men) with T2D who were receiving chronic care in two main referral centers in the two major cities (Douala and Yaounde) of Cameroon. Logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% co

Sex-specific hemodynamic and non-hemodynamic determinants of aortic root size in hypertensive subjects with left ventricular hypertrophy.

Aortic root (AoR) dilatation is more frequently observed in hypertensive individuals and is independently associated with left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy. Although the LV structure has sex-specific predictors, it remains unknown whether there are gender-related differences in the determinants of AoR size. We carried out a cross-sectional analysis of clinical, laboratory, anthropometric, funduscopic and echocardiographic features of 438 hypertensive patients with LV hypertrophy (266 women and 172 men). Women with enlarged AoR had higher cardiac output (P=0.0004), decreased peripheral vascular

Vectorcardiography risk stratifies emergency department chest pain patients with left ventricular hypertrophy on the initial 12-lead ECG.

BACKGROUND: Vectorcardiographic (VCG) measurements of ST-vector magnitude (VM) and QRS-vector difference (VD) have been demonstrated to be independent predictors of adverse outcome (AO) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in emergency department (ED) chest pain patients with absence of bundle branch block or left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) on the initial 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). The prognostic value of ST-VM and QRS-VD in ED chest pain patients with LVH on the initial 12-lead ECG has not been previously investigated. METHODS: A prospective observational study was performed in 196

Evaluation of ECG criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy before and after aortic valve replacement using magnetic resonance imaging.

PURPOSE: Evaluation of different electrocardiographic criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy (ECG-LVH criteria) using left ventricular mass index (LVMI) determined by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In addition, the relation between LVMI regression after aortic valve replacement and corresponding ECG changes regarding LVH was studied. METHODS: A group of 31 patients with severe aortic valve disease was studied to assess the presence of ECG-LVH and to measure LVMI and LV end-diastolic volume index (LVEDVI); 13 patients were restudied at 9.8 +/- 2.7 months after aortic valve replacement.

Angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist, losartan, causes regression of left ventricular hypertrophy in end-stage renal disease.

Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) commonly occurs in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular events. Angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1-R) antagonists may be able to reverse LVH independent to the hypotensive effect in the ESRD setting. Thirty chronically hemodialyzed uremic patients with hypertension were randomly assigned to receive the AT1-R antagonist losartan (n = 10), the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACD) inhibitor enalapril (n = 10), or calcium antagonist amlodipine (n = 10). Left ventricular mass (LVM) index was measured by

Arterial wall thickening at different sites and its association with left ventricular hypertrophy in newly diagnosed essential hypertension.

The impact of hypertension on vascular structure at different arterial sites and the relation of vascular hypertrophy with left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy in the early stages of essential hypertension are unclear. In 96 newly diagnosed, never-treated, uncomplicated hypertensive subjects aged < 55 years (43 +/- 9 years, 68 men, clinic blood pressure 152/99 mm Hg, 24-h blood pressure 135/89 mm Hg), we measured LV mass (M-mode echocardiography) and intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid and femoral arteries (high-resolution B-mode ultrasound). The average of 24 carotid and 24 femoral IMT r

Unusual distribution of left ventricular hypertrophy in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: localized posterobasal free wall thickening in two patients.

Two patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and a previously unreported distribution of left ventricular hypertrophy are described. Each patient showed substantial wall thickening that was confined to the posterobasal segment of the left ventricular free wall, as well as evidence of dynamic subaortic obstruction. This observation emphasizes the fact that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is characterized by a broad morphologic spectrum. Furthermore, it demonstrates a unique circumstance in which left ventricular outflow tract obstruction may occur in the absence of anterior and basal septal hypert

Regional myocardial blood flow in left ventricular hypertrophy. An experimental investigation in Newfoundland dogs with congenital subaortic stenosis.

To test the hypothesis that left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) may predispose the subendocardium to ischemia, we studied regional myocardial blood flow in dogs with the fibrous ring form of subvalvular aortic stenosis and concentric LVH. Radioactive microspheres, 9 +/- 1 mu in diameter, were used. Eleven dogs with LVH (left ventricular body weight ratio of 6.35 +/- 0.46 gm/kg [mean +/- SEM] and peak left ventricular outflow gradient of 51 +/- 7 mm Hg) were compared to 12 normal dogs (left ventricular/body weight ratio of 3.41 +/- 0.12 gm/kg and peak left ventricular outflow gradient of 6 +/- 3

Left Ventricular and Right Ventricular Hypertrophy Modelling to Study PAPP-A-Mediated IGFBP-4 Cleavage-a Mechanism That Regulates IGF Bioavailability in Adult Rats.

Pathological cardiac hypertrophy, a major contributor to heart failure, is characterized by an abnormal increase in the size of atria and ventricles. In the context of ventricular hypertrophy, the right ventricle (RV) exhibits less resistance to hypertrophy than the left one (LV). Insulin-like growth factors (IGF-1 and IGF-2) are critical for cell growth and provide cardioprotective effects. Pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) is a protease that cleaves insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-4 (IGFBP-4) and enhances IGF bioavailability. This study investigated PAPP-A-mediated IG
