This paper discusses the need for research on the psychometric adequacy of self-completed problem checklists to classify child and adolescent psychiatric disorder based on proxy assessments by parents and self-assessments by adolescents. An investigation into observer variation and depressive phenomenology is described. A group of 6 clinicians independently completed a 43-item sheet for 20 depressed patients at the same clinical interview. The coefficient of agreements on the items are given.
