Leptospirosis is not an exotic disease, still it is seen more frequent in southern countries. Microsymptoms, such as supraorbital headache, muscle pain in the legs, herpes naso-labialis or axillaris (often symmetrical), pharynxenanthema, fugitive rash, epistaxis, confusion, etc., are very important for early diagnosis. An intradermal test for early diagnosis was developed and is described here.

Eosinophil count, delayed intradermal test and lymphoblast transformation test (LTT) using SEA, have been used to study the correlation of eosinophilia with CMI in patients with schistosomiasis mansoni. Only a weak positive correlation was found between the eosinophil count and both in vivo and in vitro manifestations of CMI. When IgE serum level was correlated with eosinophil count, a positive correlation was only found in cases with hepato-splenic disease (those with increased CMI).

A 4-week open cumulative irritancy test in guinea pigs discriminated between two low grade irritant vehicles, nonionic base (anhydrous) and hydrophilic ointment. The procedure might be useful as a predictive test for low grade irritants. A total of 24 patients showing predominantly urticarial and/or anaphylactic reactions to analgesics were exposed to the suspicious agents by means of skin testing and oral provocation. Only two patients, who had already shown mild anaphylactic symptoms during the skin test, were excluded from the oral provocation test. In 19 out of 24 cases, the presumed intolerance of analgesics could be confirmed by oral provocations, i.e., the rate of accuracy was 79%. An anaphylactic reaction to a hair dye is reported. Skin testing with the dye and its individual components demonstrated a wheal and flare response to an oxidation product of p-phenylenediamine. This product is N'N'-bis-(4-aminophenyl)-2,5-diamino-1,4-quinonediimine. Passive transfer of this sensitivity by the patient's serum to a normal control implicated an IgE-mediated reaction.
