This brief report provides a first look at self-reported instances of elder abuse by a sample of people 60 years and older living in Qazvin, Iran. Six hundred community-dwelling persons, drawn from the registry files of each health center in Qazin, completed questionnaires during April to October 2012. At least 80% of the participants reported experiencing some form of psychological abuse, financial abuse, and/or neglect at least once during a 2-month period. Giardia lamblia cysts isolated from human faeces in South of Iran were analyzed with PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) assay, based on the detection of glutamate dehydrogenase (gdh) genes. OBJECTIVES: North-west Iran is a high-risk area for gastric cancer (GC). Dietary practices may increase risk of GC. For the first time, the diet-GC association in this area was assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire.

METHODS: From November 1996 through October 2008, 3,458 patients presented to us with self-diagnosed PE.
