BACKGROUND/AIMS: Earlier studies on intraocular tissue have demonstrated that T lymphocytes play a major role in the pathogenesis of uveitis. Adhesion molecules are immunoregulatory molecules for the interaction between T lymphocytes and vascular endothelium and they play an important role in the recruitment of specific T lymphocytes from the circulation into inflamed tissue. I describe two cases of iris prolapse after sutureless 5.1 mm clear corneal incision cataract surgery with implantation of a 5 mm poly(methyl methacrylate) lens. Both patients reported having exerted localized digital pressure on the globe peripheral to the temporally located incision. A case is described where exfoliation syndrome developed in a relatively young patient with heterochromia. The patient had previously undergone large radial iridotomies as part of penetrating keratoplasty procedures. Histopathological and immunohistochemical findings in 11 patients with spontaneous congenital non-pigmented epithelial cysts of the iris stroma were studied. The cysts were lined by stratified squamous to unilayered cuboidal non-pigmented epithelium. Goblet cells were present in nine cysts, indicating a similarity to conjunctival epithelium. The visual results and complications with iris fixation and anterior chamber lenses were compared by studying 289 consecutive implantations, most performed by intracapsular techniques. The mechanical behavior of athe iris-lens-zonule-ciliary body (ILZC) system under intraocular pressure variations, measured with Scan A, is studied on a series of 20 rabbit eyes. The experiments indicate that the ILZC system behaves like a partition between the anterior and vitreous chambers and not like a supporting structural member. The observed behavior is related to previous clinical observations and to the biostructural model of the eye described in a previous paper by the authors.

We investigated whether the pattern of illusion effects differs between length and position judgments in the Giovanelli illusion, the gravity lens illusion, and Yang's iris illusion.
