Repair Fails More Frequently Than Reconstruction in Acute Posterolateral Corner Knee Injuries: A Systematic Review of Outcomes Following Surgical Management.

PURPOSE: To synthesize the current literature on posterolateral corner (PLC) reconstruction and repair, focusing on a comparison of surgical techniques and outcomes based on injury chronicity in the setting of sports-related ligament tears. METHODS: A systematic review of the literature, including queries of the PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases, was performed in March 2024. Studies were included if they were of Level IV evidence or greater, reported PLC reconstruction or repair outcomes, and had a minimum 2-year follow-up. Patient demographics, injury type, time from inj

Reconstruction of the quadriceps apparatus following open injuries to the knee joint using pedicled gastrocnemius musculotendinous unit as bridge graft.

The objectives of treating open knee joint injuries with disruption of the distal quadriceps mechanism are to ensure rapid wound healing and to restore joint function. For this it is necessary to provide soft tissue cover, control infection, restore full extension of the knee by reconstruction of the extensor apparatus and prevent joint stiffness by early mobilisation. Two cases are presented where the gastrocnemius (medial half) musculotendinous unit has been used to reconstruct, in one stage, the extensor apparatus and at the same time to provide soft tissue cover.

The effect of proprioceptive knee bracing on knee stability during three different sport related movement tasks in healthy subjects and the implications to the management of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries.

INTRODUCTION: Proprioceptive knee braces have been shown to improve knee mechanics, however much of the work to date has focused on tasks such as slow step down tasks rather than more dynamic sporting tasks. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore if such improvements in stability may be seen during faster sports specific tasks as well as slower tasks. METHOD: Twelve subjects performed a slow step down, single leg drop jump and pivot turn jump with and without a silicone web brace. 3D kinematics of the knee were collected using a ten camera Qualisys motion analysis system. Reflective markers

Adequate protection rather than knee flexion prevents popliteal vascular injury during high tibial osteotomy: analysis of three-dimensional knee models in relation to knee flexion and osteotomy techniques.

PURPOSE: (1) To analyse popliteal artery (PA) movement in a three-dimensional (3D) coordinate system in relation to knee flexion and high tibial osteotomy (HTO) techniques (lateral closed wedge HTO [LCHTO], uniplane medial open wedge HTO [UP-MOHTO], biplane medial open wedge HTO [BP-MOHTO]) and (2) to identify safe zones of the PA in each osteotomy plane. METHODS: Sixteen knees of patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging with extension and 90° flexion were used to develop subject-specific 3D knee flexion models. Displacement of the PA during knee flexion was measured along the X- and

Patient Acceptable Symptom State at 1 and 3 Years After Total Knee Arthroplasty: Thresholds for the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS).

BACKGROUND: To facilitate the interpretation of numerical patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) scales, concepts such as the patient acceptable symptom state (PASS) have been introduced. Currently, no PASS thresholds have been established for the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) after total knee arthroplasty. The aims of the current study were to define PASS thresholds for the KOOS subscales and several other generic and knee-specific PROMs at 1 and 3 years after total knee arthroplasty using data from an international, multicenter clinical outcome study of a modern, well-

Midshaft femoral fracture, concomitant ipsilateral hip joint injury, and disruption of the knee extensor mechanism: a unique triad of dashboard injury.

Our experience with 10 patients who suffered midshaft fractures of the femur and injuries to their ipsilateral hips has resulted in a treatment protocol that we believe can avoid unnecessary complications. The surgical protocol is a three-stage procedure based on (1) intramedullary nailing of the femur with interlocking for preserving the anatomic length and rotation of the femur; (2) treatment of the hip joint injury by means of open reduction and internal fixation of the acetabular fracture and/or reduction and fixation of the fractured femoral neck; and (3) repair of the extensor mechanism.

Short Foot Exercises as a Preventive Strategy for ACL Injury in Women with Dynamic Knee Valgus.

BACKGROUND: Dynamic knee valgus (DKV) is a well-established contributor to knee injuries, with women at higher risk. Traditional rehabilitation often emphasizes proximal muscle strengthening, but growing research suggests that foot and ankle dysfunction may play a critical role in DKV development. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a 6-week short foot exercise (SFE) program on the DKV angle, navicular drop, ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (DFROM), and proprioceptive acuity at the knee and ankle in women with DKV. METHODS: This quasi-experimental study involved 28 female univers…

Bone mineral density after spinal cord injury: assessment of hip and knee measurements.

INTRODUCTION: Bone loss is most common around the knee region in spinal cord injury (SCI) population. However, bone mineral density (BMD) measurement and T score in the knee region, which indicate osteoporosis, are not clear. This study aimed to examine BMD, T and Z scores at hip and knee including femoral neck (FN), total hip (TH), proximal tibia (PT), and distal femur (DF) in individuals with SCI, to investigate the relationship between BMD of the knee and hip, and to define DF and PT T scores thresholds that predict osteoporosis at the hip. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study

Application of internal brace ligament augmentation technique in knee ligament injury: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are common and can lead to significant knee instability and an increased risk of long-term cartilage damage. Given the emerging role of internal brace ligament augmentation (IBLA) in treating these injuries, this systematic review aimed to evaluate the collective evidence on the safety and effectiveness of IBLA in patients with anterior cruciate ligament injury. METHODS: We systematically searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases until July 2025. The literature was screened according to the inclusion and e

Tendon Transfers for Knee Extension Following Femoral Nerve Injury After Hip Arthroplasty.

Femoral nerve injury is a rare but devastating complication of direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty that occurs in about 1% of the cases and could potentially lead to debilitating loss of knee extension. In this case report, we present a case of femoral nerve injury following direct anterior approach hip arthroplasty with an inability to extend the affected knee, gait instability, and multiple falls. For this patient, an innovative functional adductor magnus muscle transfer was performed to restore knee extension. At 6 months after surgery, the patient's knee extension was partly re
