Latent Class Analysis of Cancer Risk Behaviors Among College Students on Guam: A Pacific Islands Cohort of College Students Study (PICCS).

This study aims to explore how cancer-related risk factors cluster among college students in Guam. Using the 2021-2022 Pacific Islands Cohort of College Students data, we conducted a latent class analysis (LCA) to organize the sample into classes based on clustering cancer risk factors, including tobacco use, binge drinking, low fruit/vegetable intake, physical inactivity, betel nut use, overweight/obesity, depression, and anxiety. Among the 577 college students surveyed, results show a high prevalence of low fruit/vegetable intake, overweight/obesity, depression, and anxiety. The LCA identifi…

Posttraumatic stress disorder symptomology among gay, bisexual, and other sexually minoritized cisgender men in the United States: A latent class analysis.

In the United States, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) disparities among sexually minoritized men (SMM) are well-documented, but diverse PTSD symptom manifestations and related vulnerabilities in this group are understudied. From October 2020 to January 2021, we collected cross-sectional demographic, HIV status, sexual behavior, and mental health data from 6319 trauma-exposed SMM in the American Men's Internet Survey. We used latent class analysis, multinomial logistic regression, and the Bolck-Croon-Hagenaars method to identify PTSD symptom classes, associations with class membership, and…

Patterns of socioeconomic marginalization and non-fatal overdose among people who use drugs: A gender-stratified repeated measures latent class analysis.

BACKGROUND: While marked gender-based differences in drug-related risk and harm between men women who use drugs have been characterized to some extent, the complex relationship between gendered socioeconomic conditions, overdose risk, and drug use patterns and behaviours remains underexplored. METHODS: We conducted gender-stratified repeated measures latent class analyses (RMLCA) with data from two ongoing cohorts of people who use drugs in Vancouver, Canada to identify discrete subgroups based on socioeconomic exposures. Multivariable generalized estimating equations models weighted by the r

How to Define Mild to Severe Hidradenitis Suppurativa? A Simple New Tool Based on Latent Class Analysis of EPIVER Data Study.

PURPOSE: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by recurrent or chronic painful and suppurating lesions in the apocrine gland-bearing regions. The lack of knowledge about HS and its extremely heterogeneous clinical presentation, in terms of both lesion appearance and sites of involvement, frequently delay its diagnosis for several years. Objectives: in this study, using the latent class analysis, it was demonstrated that severity of HS could be evaluated not only with clinical or surgical characteristics but also with gender specificities. PATIENTS AND MET…

Estimation of the true prevalence of inaccurate artificial inseminations in Irish milk recording dairy cows using a Bayesian latent class analysis.

Inaccurate artificial insemination (IAI) refers to an artificial insemination (AI) that is performed when a cow is not in oestrus. IAIs have economic impacts on the dairy industry through of semen wastage or iatrogenic pregnancy loss. However, few studies have quantified the prevalence of IAIs in a population. The primary objective of this prospective study was to estimate the cow-level true prevalence of IAIs in Irish milk recording dairy herds using a latent class model with a Bayesian framework. Milk samples were collected at a milk recording laboratory from 576 dairy cows in 125 herds who

The association between subgroups of MRI findings identified with latent class analysis and low back pain in 40-year-old Danes.

BACKGROUND: Research into the clinical importance of spinal MRI findings in patients with low back pain (LBP) has primarily focused on single imaging findings, such as Modic changes or disc degeneration, and found only weak associations with the presence of pain. However, numerous MRI findings almost always co-exist in the lumbar spine and are often present at more than one lumbar level. It is possible that multiple MRI findings are more strongly associated with LBP than single MRI findings. Latent Class Analysis is a statistical method that has recently been tested and found useful for identi…

Latent class analysis of diagnostic tests for adenovirus, Bordetella pertussis and influenza virus infections in German adults with longer lasting coughs.

Laboratory tests in adult outpatients with longer lasting coughs to identify a potential causal pathogen are rarely performed, and there is no gold standard for these diagnostic tests. While the diagnostic validity of serological tests for pertussis is well established their potential contribution for diagnosing adenovirus and influenza virus A and B infections is unclear. A sentinel study into the population-based incidence of longer lasting coughs in adults was done in Rostock (former East Germany) and Krefeld (former West Germany). A total of 971 outpatients who consulted general practition

Comorbidity patterns and their associations with performance status and treatment receipt in breast and colorectal cancers in a multiethnic Asian setting: a latent class analysis.

PURPOSE: Comorbidity is usually summarised as a count or index, which treats different combinations of conditions equally. Whether distinct comorbidity patterns have different implications for management decisions in cancer is unclear. We applied latent class analysis (LCA) to identify comorbidity patterns and examined their associations with performance status and cancer treatment in individuals with breast or colorectal cancer. METHODS: Data from two Malaysian cohorts comprising adults with breast or colorectal cancer were analysed. Comorbidities, verified against medical records, were grou…
