The importance of young surgeons in surgical health policy advocacy engagement.

BACKGROUND: Despite its critical importance, health policy advocacy remains vastly underutilized among surgeons and represents a critical area for professional development. Yet, interest is growing among younger physicians, particularly early-career surgeons who increasingly view advocacy as integral to patient care. Amid a rapidly evolving health care landscape, advocacy is defined as physician efforts to influence social, economic, and political factors affecting health and is essential for addressing systemic challenges. METHODS: Millennials and GenZ are now entering in early to mid-stages

EUPID-configurable privacy-preserving record linkage in federated health data spaces.

INTRODUCTION: Rare disease research relies heavily on secondary use of health data due to the scarcity of clinical guidelines and data sharing between research institutions and hospitals. Linking rare disease patients is challenging due to increased re-identification risk in small cohorts, thus limiting the data's potential for research. Privacy-Preserving Record Linkage (PPRL) enables the linkage of disparate datasets while safeguarding the identities of involved participants. METHODS: The aim of the present paper is to provide an up-to-date description of the concept and the technical detai

Pesticide intoxications in the Centre of Portugal: three years analysis.

Pesticides are used in most countries around the world to protect agricultural and horticultural crops against damage. Poisoning by these toxicant agents occurs as a result of misuse or accidental exposure, and also by oral ingestion (voluntary or not). In Portugal, pesticide intoxications are still a cause of death, found in a considerable number of cases. The authors retrospectively examined the cases of pesticide poisoning in the Centre of Portugal, from autopsies performed in the Forensic Pathology Service of Coimbra's Delegation of the National Institute of Legal Medicine (NILM) and from
