A primary hepatocellular carcinoma associated with underlying hemochromatosis appeared as a metastatic mandibular lesion. A swelling of the retromolar area and mandibular paresthesia were the presenting complaints. Hepatocellular carcinoma rarely metastasizes to the orofacial area. To our knowledge, only 18 cases have been reported. The clinical, radiographic, and histologic features of an additional case of hepatocellular carcinoma metastatic to the left posterior alveolar ridge is reported, and the literature is reviewed.

BACKGROUND: This systematic review aimed to incorporate published data regarding synchronous cemento-ossifying fibromas (COF), with an analysis of their demographic and clinicopathological characteristics.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Case reports and case series of synchronous COF were searched in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, and LILACS according to the PRISMA (2020) statement. Also, a manual search was carried out and the grey literature was assessed. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed.
RESULTS: Nineteen studies comprising 20 cases of synchronous COF were included. The me

Two cases of low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (LGMS) are presented: one of lateral tongue, the other of lower buccal vestibule. LGMS represents a distinct atypical myofibroblastic tumor that occurs in several sites, primarily within the head and neck regions. A painless, enlarging mass is the most common clinical presentation, but a definitive diagnosis requires both histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses. Histologically, LGMS commonly presents as a cellular lesion composed of spindle-shaped tumor cells arranged primarily in fascicles with a diffusely infiltrative pattern. Immunoh

Neuroblastoma, ganglioneuroblastoma and ganglioneuroma are neuroblastic tumours derived from primordial neural crest tissue. The authors report a rare presentation of a ganglioneuroma of the mandible arising from a metastasis of an adrenal neuroblastoma. The pathogenesis and behaviour of ganglioneuromas is discussed, together with recommendations for their management.

Although neuroblastoma is a relatively common malignancy of childhood and its dissemination to distant organs is often seen, metastasis to the mandible is rare. A 3-year-old boy which a mandibular soft tissue mass was the initial presenting symptom of disseminated neuroblastoma is reported. The results of biopsy were inconclusive and the differential diagnosis from the imaging studies included lymphoma, soft tissue sarcoma, and osteosarcoma. A metastatic work-up disclosed neuroblastoma of the adrenal gland origin with osseous and bone marrow metastases. Urinary catecolamines were also increase

Epidermal nevus syndrome (ENS) is a hamartoneoplastic syndrome characterized by the association of epidermal nevi with abnormalities in other organ systems. We report a 32-year-old woman with ENS that, in addition to cutaneous manifestations, showed red plaques on the maxillary and mandibular labial alveolar mucosa and a papillomatous lesion of the midline posterior hard palate. Radiographic examination of the jaws was noncontributory. Approximately 5 years later, a follicular ameloblastoma developed in the mandible. The tumor showed duct-like cystic spaces, continuity with the overlying epith

BACKGROUND: Planning of surgical procedures in patients suffering from oropharyngeal cancer requires appropriate imaging, particularly in consideration of the spatial relationship to the mandible. Resection of portions of the mandible (box, marginal, or segmental resection) is often necessary, while simultaneously avoiding overtreatment. Typically, a computed tomography (CT) scan is initially performed. However, the question arises of whether CT alone is adequate for reliable assessment of mandibular involvement.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A patient cohort of 25 individuals aged 44-79 years (mean

BACKGROUND: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare bone marrow derived neoplasm that mainly affects children. It is a multiorgan disorder and hypothalamic-pituitary involvement is uncommon. LCH reveals a wide spectrum of indications; thus, the diagnosis and treatment are usually challenging.
CASE REPORT: A 22-year-old male presented with polydipsia, polyuria with nonspecific radiological findings, later on, developed a mandibular lesion and a biopsy was conducted which led to LCH diagnosis. After many improper treatments due to unclear diagnosis, the patient was finally placed on chemo

Synovial chondromatosis (SC) is an uncommon disease characterized by a benign nodular cartilaginous proliferation arising from the joint synovium, bursae, or tendon sheaths. Although the temporomandibular joint is rarely affected by neoplastic lesions, SC is the most common neoplastic lesion of this joint. The treatment of this disease consists in the extraoral surgery with a wide removal of the lesion; in this study, the authors described a more conservative intraoral surgical approach. Patient with SC of temporomandibular joint typically refer a limitation in the mouth opening, together with

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most commonly encountered malignant oral tumor in cats. The etiology of this locally invasive tumor is likely multifactorial. Several risk factors have been identified, including the use of flea collars, and a history of feeding canned food and canned tuna. Clinical signs vary depending on tumor location. The tumor commonly arises from the gingiva and mucosa of the maxilla, mandible, tongue, sublingual area, or tonsillar region. Maxillary SCC commonly presents clinically as an ulcerative lesion, whereas mandibular SCC is commonly proliferative, expansile, a

Giant cell tumors of the jaw (GCTJ) are common in the long bones but rare in the craniofacial region, with only 1% of cases occurring in the latter; they account for approximately 3% to 5% of all primary bone tumors and 15% to 20% of all benign bone tumors. The biologic behavior of central giant cell lesions of the jaws ranges from quiescent to aggressive with destructive expansion, and the clinical behavior of GCTJ of the jaws is variable and difficult to predict. A number of tumors that occur in the jaws contain giant cells but are not true benign giant cell tumors. These include aneurysmal

We describe two prepubertal girls with oncogenic rickets. The first patient, 9 years of age, presented with recent-onset lower-extremity pain. The second girl, presented at 4 years of age following a 9-month period of muscle weakness, bone pain, and poor linear growth. Laboratory analyses in both patients revealed hypophosphatemia and hyperphosphaturia; elevated circulating alkaline phosphatase activity was present in one of them. Radiographic evidence of a generalized rachitic process was evident in both cases. Computerized tomography of the paranasal sinuses and facial bones in patient 1 rev

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastic fibrosarcoma (AFS) is a rare malignant odontogenic tumor, commonly occurring in young adults and typically affecting the mandibular region. We report an exceptionally rare and highly atypical case of AFS in an elderly female patient originating from the maxillary bone.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 66-year-old woman was admitted with a two-week history of a lump in her left upper molar. CT scans suggested a cyst in the maxillary bone. An incisional biopsy revealed a spindle cell neoplasm. MRI showed abnormalities in the left maxilla, indicating a possible tumorous lesion. The

Ghost cell tumors are a family of lesions that range in presentation from cyst to solid neoplasm and in behavior from benign to locally aggressive or metastatic. All are characterized by the presence of ameloblastic epithelium, ghost cells, and calcifications. This report presents the cases of a 14-year-old girl with a calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor (CCOT) and a 65-year-old woman with a peripheral dentinogenic ghost cell tumor (DGCT) with dysplastic changes, a rare locally invasive tumor of odontogenic epithelium. The first patient presented with a 1-year history of slowly progressing pai

Sialoblastoma is a rare tumor of the salivary gland that commonly occurs in the parotid gland and occasionally in the sub-mandibular gland. The malignant potential of sialoblastoma has been documented in only 3 of 32 cases of sialoblastoma reported thus far. In the last 15 years, we have encountered 2 cases of sialoblastoma, in a newborn and in a 15-year-old boy, both arising within the parotid gland. Case 1 has been previously reported and although there were 2 recurrences, at 1 and 9 years post resection, it has shown benign biological behavior. Case 2 is unusual since the patient presented

AIM: The aim of this report is to present the management of an aggressive, highly proliferative pregnancy tumor with clinical and radiographic characteristics highly suggestive of a malignant neoplasm.
BACKGROUND: Pregnancy tumor is a benign hyperplastic gingival lesion occurring during pregnancy that is indistinguishable from a pyogenic granuloma arising in nonpregnant females, or in males. The lesion usually grows over a few months and tends to bleed.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 28-year-old woman at four months of gestation was referred for a massive gingival swelling (5.5 cm in greatest diameter)

We report a case of distant cutaneous metastases in a 68-year-old patient with malignant ameloblastoma of the mandible. The metastatic lesions were first noted approximately 31 years after resection of the primary tumor. Metastases to lung, pleura, bone, and brain had also occurred. Histochemical findings differ from those described in adamantinoid basal cell carcinoma. Cutaneous metastasis probably resulted from hematogenous dissemination. To our knowledge, this is the first report of such an occurrence in English language literature.
