A total of 100 patients giving histories suggestive of sexually transmitted disease (STDs) and attending the dermatology OPD at BPKIHS (B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences) in Nepal over a period of one year from 1st July 1999 to 30th June 2000 were included in this study. It has been reported that both chorangiosis and chorangioma are increased in placentas at high altitudes. In this study, 1.14% of 2448 Japanese placentas obtained at 30-300 m had chorangiosis or chorangioma, compared with 3.24% of the Nepalese placentas (1300-3000 m) and 9.09% of the Tibetan samples (3800-4200 m). Corneal ulceration is one of the most frequent causes of blindness in developing countries. Between September 1985 and August 1987, 405 patients with corneal ulceration were examined at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. Males and females were equally affected.
