Prediction of systemic inflammatory response syndrome and urosepsis after percutaneous nephrolithotomy by urine culture, stone culture, and renal pelvis urine culture: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is thought to have an increased risk of infectious complications. This study evaluates the predictability of preoperative midstream urine culture (PMUC), stone culture (SC), and renal pelvis urine culture (RPUC) for post-PCNL systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) or urosepsis. METHOD: After literature search in electronic databases (Embase, PubMed, Ovid, Science Direct, and Springer), studies were selected by following precise eligibility criteria. The quality of included studies was assessed, and meta-analyses of proportions were perfo

Safety and effectiveness of retrograde intrarenal surgery versus percutaneous nephrolithotomy in older patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis by the EAU-YAU urolithiasis and EAU endourology sections.

BACKGROUND: The comparative efficacy and safety of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) have been extensively evaluated in the general adult population; however, evidence specifically focused on older patients remains limited. Given the underrepresentation of older individuals in comparative studies and the lack of age-specific meta-analytic data, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of RIRS versus PCNL in the geriatric population. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted

Lung ultrasound-guided protocolized fluid management versus conventional central venous pressure-based management in monitoring extravascular lung water during the perioperative period of percutaneous nephrolithotomy: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a common surgical intervention to treat renal calculi. Excessive irrigation fluid absorption during surgery may enhance extravascular lung water (EVLW) level. Hence, accurate monitoring and protocolized management of EVLW are crucial for preventing postoperative complications. METHODS: Our randomized controlled study enrolled 181 cases undergoing elective PCNL and randomly divided them to conventional CVP-based fluid management (Group C) or lung ultrasound-guided protocolized fluid management (Group LUS). Primary outcomes included increased i
