The effects of colon mitosis inhibitor (CMI), thyroliberin (TRH), and the somatostatin analogue octreotide (SMS 201-995) on rat colonic mucosal epithelial cell proliferation were studied. As an index of cell proliferation the incorporation of bromodeoxyuridine (BrDU) into cell nuclei was used. In affected patients, renal function may progressively decline up to end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and approximately 10% of those with ESRD are affected by ADPKD. BACKGROUND & AIMS: Polycystic liver disease (PLD) is associated with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) or autosomal dominant polycystic liver disease (PCLD). The resulting hepatomegaly compromises quality of life. Somatostatin analogues reduce PLD volume by approximately 5% when given for 6-12 months.
